A mystery is still unfolding in Saginaw, Texas, where a little girl’s body was found in the middle of the street under a tarp. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is working with the Texas Rangers to examine who the child is and how her life ended, resulting in her being left in the road.
According to reports, children playing in the neighborhood of Roundrock Drive and Cindy Lane where she was found noticed a pile in the middle of the road. Originally, they believed it to be garbage, but upon further analysis, they discovered it was the little girl.
John Smith, 18, one of the witnesses who discovered the body said, “At first, I just thought it was some rubber stuff at first, and then I got a closer look and all I saw was a bag and I saw some hair sticking out and so, I was like, ‘Oh my God! It’s a girl!’ And that’s when I dropped to my knees and just started crying.” (nbcdfw.com)
Smith’s cousin, Wesley Whiddon, went to go find his parents after the discovery. His mother, Katie, stated of the findings, “I was panicking. I was freaked out,” she went on to ponder, “How can somebody hurt a little girl?” (nbcdfw.com)
Witnesses put the child’s age at 3 – 4 years old, but authorities have not positively identified her or her age. They also claim her hands and feet were bound together, she was nude, and she had a bag over her head, but officials have not commented.
Although initial reports stated there were no missing children in the area, a couple came forward after the body was found and made a report their child was missing.

There is an ongoing an active investigation into the death of the child; authorities are asking for help from the public. They are looking for a red truck with green paint splattered on the rear passenger side; make and model are unknown.
“This situation is very disturbing and it’s very sad and our department is doing everything in its power to find the person that’s responsible and bring them to justice,” Officer Damon Ing, of the Saginaw Police Department, said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 682-888-3682 or 682-888-3684.
There was a vigil held for the child on Tuesday night in Saginaw, and the Willow Creek Elementary School will be open today, Wednesday, July 3 from 8:30 – 10:30 for anyone who would like to speak with a counselor. Any additional support will be provided to the community as needed.
Smith sums up the sadness in the community the best by saying, “Every time I walk out that front door, I’m going to look over here and know I found a little girl. Someone’s little girl, that’s just sitting here miserable in the middle of the street dead, and her family’s out there wondering where she’s at.”
