“Glee” star Cory Monteith who played Finn Hudson was found dead in his hotel room Saturday. Early police reports have ruled out foul play. Examiners will begin the process of an autopsy on Monday. The hotel staff found Monteith after he failed to report for checkout.
Hotel records show 31 year old Monteith checked into his room July 6. The struggles Monteith have encountered is not new in the public eye. He recently underwent treatment at an addiction treatment facility in April. The star seemed to be rebounding after his release, appearing with co-star and real life girlfriend Lea Michele.
Vancouver Police were saddened to deliver the news today, Acting Chief LePard shared a story of his,
“As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.”
While a source from the hotel stated Monteith had a party Friday night that started in his room, he was unaccompanied when he went back to the room, as attested by hotel video footage. The footage and contents, not yet released by police, do allow them to state they have no reason to believe or suspect foul play in the death of Monteith.
In 2011, Monteith broke his silence of his addiction, sharing his story with Parade Magazine about his long path of drug abuse which began shortly after he turned 13 years old. At age 19, the Canadian actor entered rehab for the first time. When he admitted publicly to his drug problem, Monteith stated,
“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too.” His stance was admirable, a step in the right direction.
Monteith rose the ranks of fame when he joined the U.S. television musical “Glee.” He bonded with co-stars off and on the screen and it is with Michele he found his connection. The musical power couple have always appeared to be supportive and it was Michele who supported Monteith when he entered rehab in the spring.
Monteith’s publicist, Melissa Kates was equally saddened by the breaking news, “We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss,” she stated in an email in regards to his passing. Police have already contacted Monteith’s family before the press conference was held. In addition, police have also interviewed some of the individuals who were in the room Friday night with the musical star.
This loss is stunning and shocking, it brings back memories of breaking news reports on other stars gone too early, such as Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston and sadly more to name. For now, fans will remember Finn Hudson, the quarterback of “Glee” who broke through the jock barriers and knocked down stereotypes. In doing so, his character brought sighs from every girl in America who always dreamed of being the one.
Cory Monteith, 31, died Saturday and while no reports of foul play are reported or suggested, it doesn’t dampen the grief and pain felt in the industry. To Monteith’s friends, family and fans- our condolences wholly extend to those affected. He will be a missed ray of sunshine.
