You see them everywhere…Sashaying through arenas as if they own them, entering wrestling rings as if they dominate them, intimidating opponents, and selling woof-tickets, as if to destroy them. Who are these titillating tarts of the wrestling world? ‘They’ are Nicole Garcia-Colace, and her sister, Brianna Garcia-Colace, better known as the double hair-pulling, double mat-slamming, diving cross bodying, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Tag Team Divas, the Bella Twins, ‘Divas you love to hate.’
Since their return to the WWE on March 11, 2013, both Nikki and Brie should get A’s for their wrestling prowess, and A-pluses’ for being insult spewing, rudely acting, bad asses. As female bullies go, the Bella’s can roll with the best of them, (literally.) I’m sure that the funkadactyls (Naomi and Cameron), rival tag-teamers, would probably say that, “the Bella’s are two of the most hated women in the WWE,” jokingly, of course. But let’s face it; even before they left, the Bella’s were spoiled and self-entitled Divas; and now, they’re worse.
The 29-year-old Mexican-Italian beauties were born in San Diego, California in November 1983. By the time they were in elementary school, they had moved from California, and were attending second grade in Scottsdale, Arizona. By then, their fondness for soccer had manifested from a school-time hobby, to a competitive sport, which continued throughout high school. It was their love of competitive soccer which served as the athletic springboard that has catapulted them into their role as Titians of the female wrestling.
In their early twenties, the Garcia twins started making their mark in the entertainment industry. Their penchant for being in the limelight, coupled with their zeal for success, compelled them to find innovative ways of standing out from the crowd. Capitalizing on their good looks and using their twinship as an angle, they began pursuing careers in modeling and acting. For the Garcia twins, 2006 was a stellar year. A gig doing promotional work garnered them a spot with Budweiser as the World Cup Twins. Later, they were chosen to be photographed holding the World Cup trophy. They also made their first national TV debut on the Fox reality show, “Meet My Folks.” Later in 2006, they participated in the International Body Doubles twins search.
It was the stamina and endurance they acquired from competitive soccer which enabled them to compete in the 2006 WWE Diva Search, according to Nikki, “From then on wrestling became our passion.”
In 2007, the sisters were recruited by the WWE’s developmental division in Tampa, Florida. Both debuted singularly in 2008, as Brie and Nikki Bella, respectively, for WWE’s SmackDown brand By November of the same year, they emerged publicly for the first time as the tag team, “The Bella Twins.”
On April 15, 2009, The Bella Twins were drafted into Raw’s Supplemental Draft. Also in April, Brie made her official in-ring debut in a Diva tag match. In May if the same year, Nikki made her official in-ring debut, as well.
In 2012, the Bella Twins (intentionally) did not renew their contracts with the WWE, allowing them to expire. They needed a break and wanted time off to pursue other ventures.
A few of those ventures included: a guest appearance on the MTV series Ridiculousness, an appearance on the new WWE JBL & Cole Show which can be found on YouTube. Both will be co-staring in the independent film Confessions of a Womanizer, which will be released in 2013. The Bella’s, along with other Divas from the WWE are a part of the reality television show called, Total Divas, which aired in July 2013 on the E Channel. Nikki also appeared as a celebrity judge at the Miss USA 2013 pageant.
In a candid 2012 interview, when asked why she and her sister took a hiatus from wrestling, Nikki Bella stated that, “Brie and I just decided that we needed a little bit of a break. When you’ve been on the road for five years, haven’t seen your bed for five days straight, we kind of came to a point like, maybe we can rest our bodies for a little bit. It might not be permanent. You guys might see us soon, you may not. We just knew that we definitely needed to take a break.”
The Bella Twins returned to WWE-Raw, on the March 11, 2013. On the March 15th, they wrestled on SmackDown against the funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi).
