The new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S are both available for grabs in a few hours. This is a first for Apple. They are releasing two models in one day; the high end version and a cheaper version. Which one is best for you?
Flagship Model: iPhone 5S
The new flagship model is the iPhone 5S and it’s all about convenience, performance and photography. This is the obvious choice for those that demand power. This model has a new 64-bit A7 processor which renders enhanced speed and amazing graphics. It’s been said that the graphics of the iPhone 5S supersede many of the smartphones on the market that are known for graphics such as the Moto X, HTC One and even the Galaxy S4.
There is more to the iPhone 5S other than its mega processor. Apple has made a significant upgrade to the camera, not in megapixel count, but in pixel size and aperture. The camera will produce brighter photos and have better low-light performance. The camera also has the new TrueTone LED flash which is a definite upgrade.
These things alone may not be a decision making factor but the new TouchID sensor, which recognizes learned fingerprints, is a definite plus. It makes accessing the phone, purchasing apps or downloading iTunes so much easier. This feature can replace the PIN entry to the phone entirely.
The iPhone 5S is thinner and lighter than the iPhone 5C. When reviewing the size difference on paper it seems minute but in person there is a noticeable difference. The aesthetic value of the iPhone 5S versus the iPhone 5C is all about preference. There are pros and cons to both but in reality it depends on taste.
Less Expensive Model: iPhone 5C
Many people will downplay the iPhone 5C as the cheap plastic version. Not necessarily true; the iPhone 5C is more about cost, color and the possibility of increased storage It’s true that the iPhone 5C closely resembles the iPhone 5 in specs but the iPhone 5 is still a great phone. The iPhone 5C will replace the iPhone 5 but it does have some enhancements.
There are some small hardware improvements that are worth mentioning. It has expanded LTE support that will benefit those that live in Europe and Asia regions and others in general that travel abroad. In addition it has an improved front-facing camera which allows the phone to take better low-light pictures and videos and will also be useful for people interested in FaceTime calls.
For the lower price the iPhone 5C is a very capable device and, with exception of the differences mentioned above, is still a quality piece of equipment. The iPhone 5C has a very appealing design with a variety of colors. If you are currently happy with the iPhone 5, 4 or 4S then this model won’t be a disappointment at all.
Software Upgrade: iOS7
The third option is to keep your iPhone 4, 4S and 5 and simply try out the new iOS7 upgrade. On September 18 the new software was released. The new software has the ability to render the experience of a new phone.
Apple made some notable changes to the current software that many iPhone owners will appreciate. There is a new Command Center, new and improved Siri, wallpaper colors, icons and animations. The software has a total face lift.
If you’re not ready for a new handset don’t hesitate to utilize the software upgrade as an option. However, if all else fails android or blackberry would love a new customer. Either way, the new iPhone 5C and 5S are up for grabs in a few hours. Which one is best for you?
