Adele Gains MBE From Prince Charles

AdeleAdele is one of the most successful artists in the world, and her service to music has now been acknowledged. The British singer-songwriter, Adele, gained her MBE award today from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

The award is usually handed out by Queen Elizabeth II, but the 87-year-old was in Sandringham, enjoying her family Christmas festivities. The 65-year-old Prince of Wales stood in for his mother, something he has been doing on numerous occasions over the last couple of years.

MBE stands for Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and is given to a handful of British subjects every year. Those who offer hands-on services and are examples to others are given this award. She joins the ranks of Aled Jones, Clare Balding, and Rowan Atkinson.

The award is not just given to celebrities. A number of local people are also awarded it each year for their contributions to their areas.

This is not the only success for the 25-year-old singer-songwriter. Adele’s album, 21, has also been named the best-selling record of all time on Amazon. The album was released in 2011 and has beaten the likes of Rhianna, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus. To add to her success, her debut album, 19, is still in the top ten best-selling albums by the online retail giant.

Adele was named as one of the MBE recipients in June 2013, around the Queen’s birthday. She was informed that one of three people would award the medal, including Prince Charles and the Queen. However, the name of the person would not be revealed until the day. It turned out to be Prince Charles who Adele gained the MBE from.

She was ready for the posh event. Her nails had been painted specifically for the event in a royal blue colour—just one of the three colours in the union flag. There were silver crowns on the ring fingers of both hands, which included red jewels, to represent the second of the three colours.

This year has proven to be her most successful. With topping the charts and receiving the MBE, she also received as Oscar for her single Skyfall, which was the theme tune for the James Bond movie of the same name.

Adele has always wanted to sing. She would perform for her mother in spotlights set up by various lamps around her home. Her recording contract with XL Recordings was gained after they found her demos on her MySpace page after graduating from Brit School, the Croydon performing arts school, in 2006. She wrote her own debut album, which was full of songs about heartbreak, and followed it up with 21. That was another album about a bad relationship.

She now lives with her partner, Simon Konecki, and son, Angelo. Future songs may be about happier times and successful relationships.

Gaining the MBE from Prince Charles is the best way for Adele to end a successful 2013. The future is still uncertain for the star. In February she announced that it would be a while before fans heard her singing again.
