For the first time since his wife, actress Natasha Richardson passed away in 2009, Liam Neeson has opened up to the public about the tragic accident and revealed some shocking news about her death. During Watch What Happens Live Thursday, the 61-year-old mentioned that he never received a condolence letter from the Canadian ski resort where Richardson’s accident took place.
The Non-Stop actor explained his statement about the resort was cut from a recent 60 Minutes segment. “It was time to talk about it. And there were some things I said that got edited out , that I wish had been kept in,” he said.
Richardson died after falling on a bunny slope at the Montreal Resort. At the time, Neeson was finishing up the 2009 film Chloe. The Parent Trap actress was staying with her two sons and initially felt fine after the accident. However, she was rushed to the hospital sometime later after falling sick, and was declared brain-dead shortly after. Richardson was 45-years old.
After bring her back home to New York, Neeson decided to take his wife off life support out of respect for her wishes. “[Her death] was never real. It still kind of isn’t,” he said during a sit-down with Anderson Cooper.
The Taken actor was in a relationship with actress Helen Mirren before meeting his late wife during filming of Nell. They married July 3, 1994. They had two sons together, Micheál and Daniel. Richardson was in a previous marriage to filmmaker Robert Fox from 1990 to 1992. Her first shot at acting took place in the 1968 movie The Charge of the Light Brigade, in which she played a flower girl. She won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in the 1998 Broadway Cabaret. She played the character Sally Bowles. She was also known for her roles in the films, Evening and Patty Hearst.
Neeson also revealed some shocking news about the last moments he had with his wife before he pulled the plug on life support. “I went in to her and I told her I loved her, said, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this , you’ve banged your head….,'” he said.
He mentioned he kept her on life support for a short time, so family and friends could say their goodbyes. He carried on with his wife wishes after condolences were given. Her funeral was held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Mar. 22. “Donated three of her organs, so she’s keeping three people alive at the moment: her heart, her kidneys and her liver,” he said.
Five years later, Neeson is still coping with the sudden loss of his wife, while raising their two boys on his own. Daniel is now 17-years old and Micheál, 18. “It hits you. It’s like a wave. You just get this profound feeling of instability….,” he said.

Wear a helmet when you ski. It increases your chances of survival should you hit your head if you fall.
