Although Selena Gomez went on a date with One Direction’s Niall Horan on February 16, it appears she may still not be over Justin Bieber. Although Gomez and Horan reportedly engaged in a makeout session during the London date, a source told Hollywood Life the hookup was a ploy to make her ex jealous. Says the anonymous source: “She knows it’s going to piss Justin off because he always says that 1D is trying to steal his crown.”
The source adds that Gomez and Horan did kiss a few times on their date, although “it wasn’t a big deal.”
As to whether the pair have a potential future together, the source did say that Gomez was open to seeing Horan again, saying that he is “being a gentleman and that is great for her.” The source further adds that Gomez doesn’t need anything serious, but “he’s cute and he likes her.”
Bieber and Gomez have had a on-again-off-again relationship with the couple reuniting in early January just long enough for photos to be snapped of the two riding on Segways. Around the same time, Bieber also posted a loving photo of the two to his Instagram account which he labeled: “Love the way you look at me.” Unfortunately love was not enough to keep the two together. They reportedly broke up for the final time because of Bieber’s drug use. Not long after, Gomez did a two-week stint in rehab at The Meadows in Arizona for a combination of reasons, including her alcohol, marijuana and Ambien use. She reportedly blames her problems on the influence of Bieber and his friends. Some have also speculated that The Meadows’ “love addiction” program may have been a reason for her choice of that facility.
If Gomez continues to date Horan, this will be her first romantic relationship since Justin Bieber as well as her first since rehab.
Fans first learned of the Sunday night date when the couple was photographed by fans who posted the image on Twitter and Instagram, prompting many to speculate about whether the two were romantically involved.
The Mirror further added fuel to the fire by pointing out that Horan’s on-again-off-again girlfriend Barbara Palvin was also in town for London Fashion Week, but Horan was opting to spend time with Gomez instead.
If Gomez was indeed hooking up with Horan for the purpose of making Justin Bieber jealous, the plan may be working. Hollywood Life reports that the singer regrets not reaching out to his ex on Valentine’s Day and is afraid that he may have lost “the best thing that ever happened to him.” The source is further quoted as saying that Bieber feels like Gomez is “totally dissing him by hooking up with Niall.”
Whether Gomez and Horan stay together for the long haul or this is simply a casual hookup meant to make Bieber jealous remains to be seen, but it’s clear that Gomez is trying to move forward with her life by getting her addictions under control and seeing other people.
