Sometimes musicians speak directly to their audience no matter the language spoken. Taylor Davis is a talented young violinist with a passion that many also hold dear; video games. Her album Gaming Fantasy, is a collection of video game tracks performed on the violin. In order to achieve the full sound necessary some tracks include piano and other instruments that help to bring the music to life.
Taylor Davis is a young musician trying to bring joy to others doing what she loves. “It is a true gift and blessing for me to be able to share my music with others.” She encourages others to follow their passion and hold onto the happiness that it brings. Her attitude is a breath of fresh air in the music world.
Davis has five available albums on her website and a single she composed herself. The variety of the albums isn’t only related to video games though, she has a Christmas album and a legendary movie music album as well. One of the video game albums is entirely filled with music from The Legend of Zelda series and another is a collaboration album with keyboard player, Laura De Wit. The collaboration album has more tracks from Kingdom Hearts II, as well as Halo 4, Street Fighter II, and Metal Gear Solid 2. Gaming Fantasy may surprise dedicated gamers due to the superb selection of tracks.
The album Gaming Fantasy demonstrates that Davis has an appreciation for Square Enix games, the album has tracks from not only Final Fantasy VII, but also Final Fantasy IX, X, Chrono Cross, and Kingdom Hearts. The main variety in the album comes from the shift from turn-based RPG’s to more recent games such as Assassin’s Creed II and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The album even includes a little bit of anime influence with tracks from Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto. It is true that most of the inspiration for Gaming Fantasy comes from the late 90’s to 2000’s, but a few unexpected older gems can also be found, such as Frog’s Theme and the main theme from Chrono Trigger.
Gaming Fantasy, along with her others, is available for digital download or if you a prefer a physical copy, her website ships anywhere in the world. Digital copies cost $10 and physical copies cost $15. Davis’ music can also be heard via Spotify or Youtube (her account it ViolinTay).
