Jennifer Lawrence, as well as British boy band One Direction, were the big winners this year at the 27th Annual Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, which were held at the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles Saturday evening. The awards show was hosted by Marky Mark Wahlberg with special guest David Blaine, and, of course, that pesky slime machine.
Lawrence, who won the honor of being the kids’ choice for favorite buttkicker and favorite movie actress was a no-show. The favorite actress was also awarded for her role in Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which won the choice of best film. One Direction won for favorite music group and favorite song for their hit Story of My Life, yet Lawrence was the bigger winner of the two receiving three Kids Choice Awards to their two.
Adam Sandler was awarded the choice of favorite movie actor, while Iron Man super-hero Robert Downey, Jr. won the male buttkicker award. He regaled the honor of being best buttkicker as the highest honor ever bestowed upon him. “I’m grateful, humble, the whole deal,” he jived. He told the crowd he has not always been a buttkicker, and in fact life in turn has kicked his butt enough times for many years, but he wised up and starting kicking back!
Dan Schneider, producer to both Sam & Cat and iCarly, won the lifetime achievement award, which was the first ever award presented for this category.
Other winners included Justin Timberlake for favorite male singer, Selena Gomez for favorite female artist, and Ariana Grande for favorite female TV actress for her part in Sam & Cat. Miranda Cosgrove won for favorite voice in an animated movie, and Kevin Hart took home the award for favorite funny actor.
Frozen won for favorite animated movie, SpongeBob Squarepants walked away with the favorite cartoon award, and Wipeout received the honors for favorite reality show.
There were many stars who cascaded down the orange carpet, including Glee star Lea Michele, who wore a pretty-in-peach, delicate dress which whimsically blew up around her Marilyn Monroe-style as she batted an eye for the photographers. David Hasselhoff also made an appearance donning a SpongeBob SquarePants tie to offset his slick, black sports jacket.
Pharrell Williams was part of the cast of celebrity faces who opened the show with internet star Todrick Hall. However, Pharrell, among others including host Wahlberg, got slimed during the show, although Pharrell was smart enough to wear a protective sheath in the shape of a SpongeBob onesie.
Since the award show’s conception, Will Smith and SpongeBob SquarePants have received the most awards ever, at 10 each. Miley Cyrus, Amanda Bynes, and Selena Gomez trail with six each, while Britney Spears has won five, and Hilary Duff has walked away with four wins. Lawrence is right at these heroines’ heels.
All award winners receive the iconic Nickelodeon orange blimp figurine, the signature logo for the network, which also functions as a kaleidoscope. At Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards everyone is a big, slimy winner, but it is without a doubt that this year One Direction and Jenny Lawrence were definitely top favorites.
