The SXSW (South by Southwest) 2014 Music and Media Conference is taking over Austin, Texas, once again. Now in its 28th year, the event gives attendees the chance to learn more about the music and film industry by attending panels, talks, the Trade Show, the Music Gear Expo as well as additional happenings at the Austin Convention Center. Film aficionados can get their fill by viewing independent films, screenings, and trailers for upcoming movies.
Over 2,200 local, national and international musicians will perform on 110 stages from March 11 through March 16 for enamored viewers and fans. Mainstream and independent artists including Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, 50 Cent, A-N-T, B.O.B., Capital Cities, The Bots, Boys Noize, Parade of Lights, Willie Nelson, Against Me!, Blondie, Aloe Blacc, Ludacris, Imagine Dragons, London Grammar, HAERTS, Melissa Ethridge, Lucius, The Strypes and hundreds of other talented musicians will be performing on a variety of stages.
iTunes also announced that Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Keith Urban and Imagine Dragons will be streaming their performances live exclusively on their website.
In addition, Gaga will be a keynote speaker this year at the conference. Guitar buffs can enjoy the Guitar Center Sessions featuring Soundgarden, Snoop Dogg, and Damon Albarn, just to name a few.
SXSW is globally known for exhibiting young gifted bands and giving them an opportunity to showcase their skills to a large audience as well as to music industry professionals with the aim of solidifying a record deal. Because of this, it is obvious why so many local artists are striving to make a name for themselves at the SXSW 2014 Music and Media Conference with the goal of taking over Austin’s massive musical soiree.
Interestingly, most signed bands that perform at SXSW play without getting compensated. Even groups like Tenacious D have performed without pay at SXSW and have done so in order to help inspire other artists and for the exposure. Rapper Machine Gun Kelly said that the gist of the music portion of the conference is about helping unknown artists get discovered.
Three rising artists to follow who will be performing at SXSW:
The Los Angeles-based quartet with lead singer Shirli McAllen, has an addicting sound, combining swing and pop styles creating a unique style all their own. The band released The Spark & the Fire last year to critical and fan acclaim.
The neo-soul singer-songwriter definitely knows how to capture the hearts of the romantic types. After the success of his debut album The Headphone Masterpiece, which was re-produced with The Roots as The Seed 2.0, ChestnuTT became an established artist in the industry. ChestnuTT’s new music video I’ve Been Life premiered with Rolling Stone from his most recent album Landing on a Hundred.
Whether its celebrity musicians or the hidden talent that meets the enthusiastic music admirer’s desires, the SXSW 2014 Music and Media Conference is taking over Austin, Texas, once again.
