Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. A Puzzle to Viewers

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is an ABC show that a person can find on Tuesdays at 8 pm and it has been a puzzle to viewers. Viewers better solve the puzzle soon or the show could be around for only one season.

The kind of puzzle that the show is a Russian doll. A Russian doll is a wooden doll that a person opens up to reveal a smaller version of the wooden doll. In the end, a person finishes with 10 versions of the same wooden doll.

The first Russian doll is the Marvel Universe. The Marvel Universe is where Spider-Man. Iron Man and Wolverine battle the bad guys on a daily basis. Most people know this universe, whether they wish to or not. Movies based on Marvel Universe characters have made billions of dollars.

A person opens the doll and gets SHIELD. SHIELD is the Marvel Universe’s version of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or British intelligence agency called MI6. If a person wants to become James Bond in the Marvel Universe, they join SHIELD. Only some people are well aware of SHIELD and those are people who have spent years reading comic book versions of Spider-Man, Wolverine and Iron Man.

The next doll is the team of SHIELD agents led by Phil Coulson. They are the Mulders and Scullys of SHIELD. They try to solve the mysteries of the Marvel Universe as well as deal with the super-powered people who occupy it without any superpowers of their own.

Nobody knows who these people are and so far, viewers have not given them a chance to get into know them. 12 millions people watched the first episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  The number of people watching this show has declined ever since. The lowest ratings that the show ever got was 3 million people. These are not good ratings for a show that should have wide appeal.

Disney, owner of the show, has high hopes for the show. They hope to be able to connect the show to the successful movie versions of the Marvel Universe. The success of this show could lead to having more Marvel-based Tv shows on ABC. They definitely have a show called Sharon Carter ready to go if Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are successful.

Jose Whedon, the creator of the show, would probably want to get over his TV losing streak. Since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he has had two short-lived TV series. Firefly was a cult hit, but it only lasted 13 episodes. Dollhouse was only on for 2 seasons and will probably not be remembered by anyone. Whedon has had a lot more success with his movies lately.

Some people had high hopes for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They expected to see lots of action with superheroes. The lack of superheroes is definitely disappointing them. There has been action, but it has been mostly done by non-superpowered human beings. The show is not what they expected.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have been weighed down by expectations of the makers and viewers.
