Scarlett Johansson on Divorce

JohanssonIn a recent interview, Scarlett Johansson talked about her divorce from Ryan Reynolds. The 29-year-old is now engaged to Romain Dauriac, a French journalist, and is expecting her first child with him. The Captain America star married Reynolds in September 2008. The former couple divorced two years later.

Since her divorce from Reynolds, the pregnant actress has changed her outlook on her romantic life. “I feel I know now more of what I need in a relationship,” Johansson said to Glamour magazine. “And I know I have more tools to communicate, not just with my partner, but with myself.”

Johansson began dating Reynolds in 2007. The pair got engaged in in May 2008. They married in a quiet ceremony in Vancouver, BC. What was the cause of the divorce? “The big problem with their relationship is the distance,” an insider said. “They spent a lot of time apart when they are working….She’s been unhappy for awhile.”

Johansson’s divorce from the Green Lantern star led her to happiness with Dauriac. The lovebirds began dating in November 2012. Last year, the duo announced their engagement. The actress mentioned that her relationship with the French journalist is easier because he’s not in the spotlight as much as she is. “We do different things,” she said. “He’s in the whole art-scene world. So it’s nice, because we can enjoy each other’s worlds, but we don’t have our crazy conflicting schedules and all that other stuff to contend with.”

Ex-husband Reynolds is now married to actress Blake Lively. The couple met while filming Green Lantern together in 2010. They began dating in October 2011. The duo married Sept. 9,2012 in South Carolina. The R.I.P.D. actor once admitted to his relationship with Johansson changing after the two got married. “I’m a little more guarded, I think,” he said in an interview for GQ. “I’m a little bit more wary of having my relationship turning into a soap opera.”

Apart from Johansson discussing her divorce from Reynolds, the actress also talked about her famous nickname. Many people associate the sex symbol with the name “ScarJo”, but the soon-to-be mother isn’t too appreciative of the moniker. “I associate that name with, like, pop stars. It sounds tacky. It’s lazy and flippant,” she said. “And there’s something kind of violent about it. There’s something insulting about it.”

Besides publicly announcing her divorce, Johansson has always kept her romantic life private. She continues to do so in her relationship with Dauriac. The couple mostly spend their time together in Paris. However, the actress did joke about her fiance in an interview with Vanity Fair. The 29-year-old said actors are obsessed with emotions in general, but Dauriac could probably relate. “…Although, [Romain is] French, so he’s probably overly into his emotions,” she said.

The actress can be seen in her role as the Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She also has a lead role in the science fiction film, Under the Skin. Johansson will once again reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The movie is scheduled for release May 1, 2015.
