‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Becomes a Trilogy

Sisterhood of the Traveling PantsSisterhood of the Traveling Pants is set to become a trilogy, six years after the sequel was created. The movie will be developed by Alloy Entertainment, which developed the first and second movies around the same four best friends.

The first two movies were based on the books of the same name by Ann Brashare, and followed the lives of four friends who spent their first summer apart when they were 17-years-old. As a way to keep them connected during the months apart, they mailed a pair of jeans to each other that supposedly had magical powers because they fit each member of the group perfectly.

While the jeans were not exactly magic, they helped each member of the group accomplish something they had struggled with for their whole lives. They became more confident, realized that they were missing something in life, or found love and friendship from others.

The first movie was only centered around the first book in the series, but Brashare has written five in total. The second movie then developed the second, third and fourth books. That leaves the fifth for this third movie.

Many may question why it has taken so long to create the third movie, but the fifth book is set years after the fourth one. The four girls have grown up into young women, and have many other events happening in their lives. It makes sense to start filming the third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie after six years, so it finally becomes a trilogy. The four actresses who played the friends have grownup and will be ready to play the young women in the books.

However, there is currently no confirmation that all four—or any of the four, in fact—will reprise their roles. There is the possibility, since the four actresses are extremely good friends, but they have all had successful careers since filming the first movie. All four have had successful TV careers with Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, Gilmore Girls and Joan of Arcadia; some before and some after the show. They have all also gone on to have successful movie careers in various roles since the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

They all currently seem to have room for the trilogy, and so far Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera, who played Tibby and Carmen respectively, seem open to the idea. However, only time will tell if they do eventually all accept. It could be a case of all of them or none of them, and if that is the case chances are the two will be able to convince Blake Lively and Alexis Biedel, who played Bridget and Lena respectively.

There is still a lot to work out for the third movie. So far, there is no script and there has not been an announcement of the directors or producers. Alloy Entertainment is just excited to get the idea of the third installment off the ground. It will be exciting for fans of the first two movies to hear that the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants will become a trilogy, and finally bring an end to the series.
