On American Idol tonight, the three remaining competitors will be whittled down to just two. Your votes, America, have decided that one of them will be leaving during this hour-long episode — but, which one? We’ll find out soon. Also, American Idol alumni, Scotty McCreery, will be performing a song off of his latest album, “Feelin’ It.”
Ryan Seacrest brought out a new addition to his family, a cute puppy called Georgia. He then introduced the three judges of American Idol, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Junior.
Scotty McCreery is in the house,” Ryan says, and will be singing later tonight.
Ryan introduced the three competitors, Caleb Johnson, Alex Preston, and Jena Irene. The ate dinner and discussed last night’s episode. Caleb slamming his mike on the stage, Alex playing the drums, and Jena singing “Creep” weresome of the things that they discusses.
Jena’s  “Remember to have fun,” comment was perhaps the most insightful one of the meal.
Back from a commercial break, we got to see a recap of Jena’s trip back to her hometown, to be greeted by her family, dogs, friends, and fans. There were many touching moments in the brief vignette, like when she met her grandpa again. She talked about “being so glad to be back” and sang as she played her keyboard. Her entire high school had a celebration for Jena, 17, who could very well be the next American Idol. Â She said she wants to win for her community, not just for herself.
Ryan told her that on the Finale, she will join forces and perform with Paramore. Then American Idol went to another commercial break.
Caleb, Jessica Meuse, C.J. Harris, and other Idols talked about their upcoming summer tour, and said that tickets will soon be available. Then, Ryan introduced Scotty McCreery sang “Feelin’ It.” It sounded a bit like he was just trying to rhyme whatever words he could, with lines like “flip-flops flopping,” and “lip gloss a-flossing.” The audience seemed to really get into the song, though, and clapped their hands along with him as he sang. He went over to the judges, and Keith stood up and gave him a bro hug. J-Lo gave him a kiss on his cheek.
The other Results Shows the past couple of weeks have been just half-hour shows, but so much is going on this episode to celebrate American Idol‘s 500th episode yesterday that the show was expanded to an hour.
Ryan announced upcoming auditions for American Idol, and talked about the bus tour and the “American Idol Experience.”
Then, Ryan talked to Alex Preston, and asked him what is was like to go back home to New Hampshire. He was interviewed there, and we saw his family, fans, and friends greet him. His grandmother seemed like a very sweet lady. The governor of New Hampshire proclaimed May 10 to be Alex Preston Day. Then, he was transported to the University of Durham, and he performed there later that night. He called it “the craziest most awesome day of my life.” Ryan told him that next week, he’ll be singing with Jason Mraz.
Ryan said that next, he’d talk with Caleb about his experience going back home, and also said that he would soon be announcing the results.
Caleb’s hometown is Asheville, North Carolina, which –sorry — was incorrectly written in yesterday’s article as “Aspen.” He had a great time meeting all of his fans, friends, and family back home,and he gave an AMAZING performance for them, rocking the auditorium out. Then, he performed the next day at the Emerald Lounge, and there was a parade in his honor.
“Caleb will take the stage next week, live, and perform with Kiss!” Ryan announced. That ought to be pretty amazing! Caleb was there with his “little brother,” who is bigger than he is, and he is a fairly big person, himself. Another break followed this cool announcement….
When American Idol returned, Ryan had all three of the Finalists onstage with him. He said “It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.”
Ryan: “The first person to compete in the Finale is — Jena Irene! The person who will battle it out with Jena next week and could be the next American Idol will be Caleb Johnson!”
Alex, sadly, will be going home. We saw a recap of the season highlights of Alex’s performances. He has a very cool, unique voice. the song he sang as his farewell song was “Fairytale ,” Â which he wrote and sang as his original audition song. He did a TERRIFIC job, and NAILED it, as usual, giving perhaps his best performance of the entire season. The audience clapped along as he sang. All of the judges stood as Alex sang, and Caleb walked over and gave Alex a big hug. Alex gave so many awesome and memorable performances this season. It really sucks to see him go, though there’s little doubt he will wind up with a record contract — he definitely deserves one.
Jean and Caleb will battle it out next week, and some of the other Top 13 performers of this season will be also singing with musicians like Darius Rucker and Philip Phillips. Caleb and Jena have strong, powerful voices — if it comes down to who can rock out the best, probably Caleb will be the season winner. But, America might be looking for other qualities, like musical range, etc., and also voters who don’t especially like rock ‘n’ roll might vote for Jena, which could lead to her ultimate victory. I agree…it’s so sad to see Alex leaving.He is so talented, genius, unique and ORIGINAL. His last performance “stay” was really great and nailed.
The final 2 show will not be excited anymore to watch.It really sucks…….
I have liked Jena the whole time through the show and she has been my favorite to win it all. I do believe that Caleb deserves to be there though I do like Alex’s style as he makes all the songs his own and makes it sound like a new song every time. I believe that all 3 are winners and will all get music contracts from this. The one thing that I agree with duilama about is the singers on the voice do have better voices. Do I smell another competition between the winners of the 2 shows to see who is the better singer. Go voice singers.
Alex should have been in the top two with Jena. This is a case of 40 somethings that want to relive the 70s/80s voting for the portly smoker Caleb with bronchitis. Caleb was right in calling you retards. Isn’t it obvious Caleb doesn’t belong in this competition. He just isn’t relevant to 2014. This was apparent in the bands/acts that will be accompanying the top 3 during the Finale. Caleb will sing with Kiss… a 70s glam band (lead singer Gene Simmons is 64, Paul Stanley is 62).When’s the last time Kiss had a hit… 70’s or 80s?? Whereas Alex will be singing with Jason Mraz (age 36) and Jena will be singing with Paramore (Haley Williams lead singer age 25, Taylor York age 24, Jeremy Davis age 29, Farro Brothers age 23, and 26). I’ll be voting for Jena. Caleb needs to cut his 70s style hair, move away from Smokerville, and try out for NBC’s Biggest Loser. Maybe if he lost a few lbs., he wouldn’t come down with bronchitis so easily. COPD and diabetes 2 is in his future.
i agree, when she starts out slow you cannot even understand her sounds, then she starts screaming! How could she be in the semi finals?? Caleb is the Best but Rockers never win! Alex was good, better than Jena! Jessica should have been in the finals but i think her attitude turned off a lot of voters.

Every time I saw Jena sing, I was so afraid her tongue would fall out and she would swallow it. and then her voice would be clearer. She sounds like Cher in steroid or cher in the dentist office after taking some numbing shots in her mouth. Why was she even there? There was no legitimate singer this season, Alex was the only decent singer and everyone else was just born with a loud voice that shouts until their vocal box bleeds.
Why can’t they have better singers on like the Voice?
America got it right, the two that are in the finale are the correct choice. My prediction, as I am sure is the same as many, is the Caleb will be the next American Idol …. he sure does deserve the title. Jena Irene is great, no doubt about that, she is a perfect runner up!
The show is slanted toward the favorites. The judges ridicule contestants that are not the favored and praise average performances of the favorites. Look at the past years along with this year. In the past they attacked Jessica Sanchez, Haley Reinhart, this year it was Jessica Muse. Randy and the judges picked songs the favored could shine when sung and songs the non favorite would not shine. Those of that watch next week you will see JLo praise the male and critize the female. JLo does not want any competition from a female singer, especially a younger one, in the music market p please. This show is slowly losing audience because of the producer’s input on who should win. The contestants should be allowed to sing their own music, but alas if theyare not the favorite it will not be allowed. Notice when JLo is involved thepush is for the guys.
I think America got it right for the finalists for this season.
Alex is accomplished and knows who he is as an artist and I agree with the blog author that he will most likely come up with a deal for his efforts. But compared to Caleb and Jena, his artistry is simply not as dynamic as either of them.
As far as who I think *should* win it, that is a much more difficult question to answer. At first look, I was of the opinion that Jena is the more versatile singer of the two. However over the weeks of the competition, I’ve seen and heard elements in Caleb’s performances that show he could do pop music justice, if he wanted to go that route.
Both Caleb and Jena deserve to win it. In the end, I think the winner will likely be Jena. But if Caleb pulls a song out like he did on his last number Wednesday night, all bets are off. THAT performance (when he was less than 100% singing health) was off the hook and truly put him in the big leagues, in my humble opinion.
I stopped watching when Malaya was kicked off.
An observation about Caleb: During the group tryouts in California, his team took on a 5th contestant, who’s team imploded. I observed Caleb push his teammates into the background, including a very talented 5th member of his performing team . . . as he appeared to “hog” the limelight. Clearly the amount of time was not evenly spread among the 5 of them and I attributed this to Caleb making sure he stole the limelight. Secondly, he is pompous and I value humility, which I have yet to see from him in any degree. I don’t believe he is nearly as talented as a singer, nor an artist as some the other contestants (e.g. Alex plays about 11 different musical instruments and writes much of his own stuff).
Unfortunately, Caleb seems to get the support of the judges, as he “puts on his act on stage,” which I don’t find impressive. His hugs with the other contestants, once they’re voted off, do not appear to be authentic, but more of “his act” in order to sway votes.
Should Caleb win it all, I trust the others in the top 5 will go onto singing careers, which will be my redemption for the show this year.

I’m an Alex fan myself, he’s career has just begun, I will defiantly buy his CD when it comes out.
I think the judges suck and they don’t know what they are doing. They show too much favoritism towards Calab and Jena. I wouldn’t pay a penny to see either one of them live in person. Alex should have won the idol reward and not the other two clowns. Alex will be the other two clowns. Alex will make more music and more money than Jena and Calab because neither one of them can sing at all. And did you see Calabs’ brother? He looks worst than Calab does. Sorry I will not watch the finale
Jena deserves to win! Caleb is good, but Jena is the best!
The true talent left the competition last night. Jena, the forced talent will obviously win this season. It’s quite remarkable how scripted this show is. Jena gets all the votes because she’s JLo’s favorite. I find it inappropriate and plain rude how JLo shows all her love and affection towards Jena, and not one ounce of love towards the others. Besides, Jena is just like another Katy Perry, so we’ve seen that enough. Alex should have won!!!
Alex deserved to go to the finale. He has been consistent and innovative all season, a breath of fresh air against the endless covers sung the same old way. As a viewer, I deserved to see his quiet genius. I am really not looking forward to a scream fest which taxes the voice, my nerves and often finds the singer going off melody, key and pitch trying to reach the ever higher note or volume. I want American Idol to release Alex’s “I Love This Feeling”. Heard the other two songs, not a fan.
Jena should not have made the top ten….Caleb was a sure winner 24 singers ago….
I can’t believe that Caleb’s red carpet press interview where he called his fans a bunch retards and was ready for the next phase of “hookers and cocaine” did not get more press, negative press and cause most of America not to vote for him. What a narcissistic loser!! That video really needs to go viral so people know what a complete A-hole this guy is! c’mon.
Alex should have been one of the two. He is DEFINITELY the most talented. He will be
successful, even more than if he had won. Jena Irene seems extremely narcissistic
and Caleb is a one-trick-pony. Good luck Alex, you deserve it!
It doesn’t really matter who wins the finale. As seen in previous finals, the runner up is more successful than the winner.
Alex performed at the university of New Hampshire, in Durham, NH. Not the university of Durham! Does that place even exist? Yes, Alex should have made it to the finals because he’s a breath of fresh air and may actually have a successful career. How many of these wanna be rockers do we need to put thru that don’t make the grade in the real world of music?

That slipped by me, but I have now edited that sentence out — thanks for the heads-up! Wikipedia had mentioned that both Malaya and C.j. would be performing so I was anticipating that the would be performing in the second half-hour of the episode. Commercials mentioned that the Top 13 would be performing, also, but they were likely talking about next week. I think that these two, and Sam Woolf, at the least, will probably be performing next week.
