Angelina Jolie has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses. Her emotional performances in films like Foxfire, Girl, Interrupted, Gia have had viewers weeping at both the mercy of the characters’ tragedies and at the brooding beauty that is Angelina Jolie. She can pull vixen off incredibly well and does so in her action films, like Wanted and Tomb Raider. Americans have watched Jolie transform from teenage nutcase to thirty-something bombshell and have, themselves, changed along with her. She is a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, an activist, an author, and an incredible actress. Angelina Jolie is set to play villian Maleficent in this year’s film by the same name, set to be released on May 30th.

Jolie has weathered her share of media storms. When she was in her 20s she came under fire for sharing a strangely intimate kiss with her brother on camera. The two claim that the affection was simply testament to their close bond. Her tumultuous relationships with her father and her ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton, have both made headlines. in 2005, she was accused of being Brad Pitt’s mistress and the sole reason his relationship with actress Jennifer Aniston collapsed. She admitted that they fell in love while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but vehemently denied any rumor of an adulterous, sexual affair.

Jolie recently admitted in an interview with Elle magazine that she never believed she would fall in love. She says that she could never see herself having children. Now, she is married to Brad Pitt and the couple has six children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Vivienne and Knox. Her daughter Vivienne is co-starring with Angelina Jolie in the upcoming film Maleficent.  Jolie has been named the “Most Beautiful Woman” by many entertainment magazines and media outlets. In her first years of acting she chose not to use an agent and spoke candidly about her personal life. She was very open about her bisexuality and relationship with Jenny Shimizu, along with her sexual fantasies and desires. Last year, 2013, Angelina Jolie addressed a New York Times op-ed to the public and talked about a double mastesctomy she had in order to prevent the breast cancer of which she was at high risk of developing.

Maleficent is one of a few Disney remakes that have been scattered across the last couple of years and follows the re-imagined Snow White And The Huntsman. Maleficent is told through the eyes of the story’s original antagonist, however, and promises to be one of the year’s most gloomy and enticing films. While Jolie and Pitt had originally decided not to sway their children toward or away from acting, Jolie states that working with her daughter on set was extremely stressful. She now “prefers” her children go in other directions. Jolie had been trying her hand at directing and worked on the 2011 film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. Later this year she will direct the film, Unbroken.

Angelina Jolie recently spoke out against the mass kidnapping in Nigeria, wherein 200 girls have been abducted by the extremist group Boko Haram. At a press conference in Paris, Jolie stated that the kidnappings were “unthinkable cruelty.”

Angelina Jolie continues to wow audiences with her bravery, acting, and beauty as she matures toward her forties. Her upcoming film, Maleficent, promises to be yet another memorable page in the novel of life the world has watched Jolie passionately craft.
