Reckless is a new and upcoming crime/drama TV series, which is set to air on CBS on June 29. It is based off of the 1997 British TV show Reckless, and stars Cam Gigandet and Anna Wood. It is one of the three new drama series CBS has picked up this season in the attempts to bring viewers some fresh new content.
Reckless is a legal drama that takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. Anna Wood plays Jamie, who is a Yankee litigator new to the city. Cam Gigandet will be playing the charming southern attorney, Roy. The two fight to hide their attraction to each other while working on as opposing forces on a scandalous case. The Charleston police department is being sued after several officers allegedly drugged and raped a young lady. Roy struggles to control his feeling as he starts to fall for Jamie, who has no problem with exploiting that fact to get ahead in court. The trailer hints at alternate motives and dishonest accusations, making it one of the most anticipated dramas on the CBS bill this year.
The Washington born actor, Cam Gigandet, will be making his debut as the lead in a TV series. Gigandet started out with secondary roles on a number of TV shows, including The Young and the Restless (1973) and The O.C. (2003). He later moved onto films, getting recognition for Easy A (2010) opposite Emma Stone. He also made an appearance as James in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). This is also Anna Wood’s debut in a lead TV role. She is best known for her role on the NBC soap opera, Deception (2013). She is also been in a number of small roles on TV shows such as Mad Men (2007) and Cold Case (2009). The spark between the two actors is the premise for what makes the show desirable.
Dana Stevens wrote the show. The California screenwriter is well known for the TV series What About Brian (2006), and the romantic adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel Safe Haven (2013). Catherine Hardwicke will be directing, along with several guest directors. Hardwicke is well known for Thirteen (2003), Red Riding Hood (2011), and the popular vampire film Twilight (2008). Along with working with CBS on the new series Reckless, Hardwicke will also be working on the new MTV drama Eye Candy this year. Both ladies have a penchant for romance heavy dramas, promising sultry sex scenes and hidden love affairs to soften the serious tones in Reckless.
The British Reckless show first aired in six parts in the UK. The series was part of PBS Masterpiece Theater, and debuted in 1997. It was written by BAFTA award-winner Paul Abbott. Abbott is best known for his 2004 show Shameless, which was later adapted by US network Showtime and made into a hit series in 2011. Other notable works of his include Touching Evil (1997), and Hit & Miss (2012). The only thing the American adaptation will have in common with the British original is the burning sexual attraction between the two professional leads. The new drama show, Reckless, will premiere on CBS June 29th, 2014.
