California Woman Kills Own Father in Drunken Driving Accident After He Begs Her Not to Drive

A California woman ended up killing her own father in an alleged drunken driving accident only two days before Father’s Day and after he begged her not to drive. The event occurred on Friday evening after Soukvilay Barton, age 37, had been arguing with her family and also drinking. It happened around 6:20 p.m. in the city of Riverside at the location of the 14000 block of Bush Avenue. After she became upset, Barton started to leave in her blue BMW convertible, which was parked in the garage of her parents home, police said. Barton rushed to the garage, then got into her vehicle and proceeded to back out.

Her father, Bounmy Rajsombath, age 69, had attempted to try and talk her out of driving drunk before she ever left the house but she ignored his words. When he saw that did not work, he physically placed himself behind her car in an actual effort to block her from driving but it failed. California state police declared that Barton instead backed up and ran right over him, therefore killing him in the process.

When she realized what she had done, Barton stopped the reverse of her car but it was too little too late, her father was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. She was arrested, led away in handcuffs and police say she now faces a range of charges from basic DUI and felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated to driving while intoxicated which caused great bodily harm.

Neighbors reported seeing Barton in a lawn chair out on the front lawn near to where Rajsombath was killed. She was said to have been sobbing greatly when she was taken away by the authorities. The neighbors also stated that they were taken aback when they heard what had happened and with it being so close to Father’s Day as well. They exclaimed the family was extremely nice and none of them had been aware of any problems in the home.

Rajsombath was reported to have been a high-ranking associate with the Laos defense department and helped the United States during the Vietnam War. A man who stated he was Rajsombath’s son-in-law told the media that the older man had been in charge of a refugee camp, located in Thailand, where people who were trying to escape the communist rebellion, in Laos during the Vietnam War, could go.

The son-in-law also explained that Rajsombath was forced to swim across the Mekong River to reach Thailand because the communists wanted to murder him. They were slaying all the Laos military that were helping the U.S. The son-in-law did not want to be identified added that Rajsombath had arrived in the United States back in the late 1970’s with his wife. They decided to settle down in southern California and raise of family of two daughters and two sons.

Rajsombath had been employed as a plumber until he hurt one of his arms in a fall around 10 years ago. However even after his injury, Rajsombath would many times do plumbing work for free for individuals who were unable to afford it.

Barton is being held on a $75,000 bond due to the killing of her own father in a drunken driving accident only two days before Father’s Day.
