Skye McCole Bartusiak

Over the weekend, Skye McCole Bartusiak died in her home but the cause of death is still unknown. It is possible that it was natural causes, as the actress was suffering from recurring epileptic fits. Her mother, Helen, explained that the 21-year-old was found sitting upright and may have choked during a seizure while alone.

The late actress is best known for her role as Mel Gibson’s daughter in The Patriot, which also starred another late actor Heath Ledger. However, Bartusiak has been involved in other TV shows and movies, including CSI and 24. She was also a producer involved in short films like Sick Boy and Frame of Reference.

The 21-year-old was living in a garage over her parent’s home, and was found by her boyfriend. There were attempts to resuscitate her, but all failed. While suicide, drugs and foul play have not been completely ruled out, there was no evidence of anything. Her parents claim that she did not do drugs and apart from the epilepsy, she was a healthy and happy young girl. Of course, when it comes to celebrity deaths at a young age, drink and drugs are the first thoughts that come to people’s minds.

There will be an autopsy carried out on the actress’ body. Until then, the cause of Bartusiak’s death is unknown but the suspicions lie on a seizure. If this is the case, there will always be thoughts running through the minds of those close to her over whether they could have done something differently. Her mother was the one to attempt CPR, and she will likely always wonder whether she could have saved her daughter had she been there sooner. Her boyfriend will also always wonder whether he could have saved her if he had have been there earlier.

A friend of the Cider House Rules actress took to Twitter to share her condolences and feelings. Abigail Breslin informed the world that Bartusiak was dead, sharing her devastation at the loss of someone who was “like a sister” to her. Breslin is known for her roles in The Ultimate Gift, which also starred James Garner. Coincidently, Garner passed away on July 19 at the age of 86. It really will be a devastating time for the 18-year-old actress.

Despite it being a short life, Bartusiak has lived and enjoyed it. She was able to act from a very young age, but remained grounded that whole time. Her career started when she was just six years old, when she starred in The Cider House. She then went onto star in Don’t Say a Word with Michael Douglas and The Patriot with Mel Gibson. Eventually, she managed to move onto another passion, which was directing. Moving onto to other passions and earning money for something she loves is something that many only dream of doing.

As well as an autopsy, toxicology tests are being performed. This will help to determine whether drugs were the cause of death, although her parents do not believe so. While the cause of death of Bartusiak is still unknown, many suspect that it was natural causes due to her epileptic seizures.
