Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora Kill It at VMAs

Iggy Azalea Rita Ora VMAs

Like two Black Widows, Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora killed at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) last night at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The performance was captivating, dazzling and even voodoo-tastic.

Iggy started off standing on a pedestal clad in a tight, black spider suit with cut outs and glittering webbing. Her hands held high above her head as she clapped to the beat as dancers in red and black widow hourglass shapes, complete with mesh masking, moved in classic ballet style before her. Right from the start the audience was hypnotized as the 24-year-old rapped her heart out in front of the huge spider web backdrop.

When Rita Ora came out to sing the chorus, the energy rose a bit but Azalea had already grabbed everyone’s attention and like a moth to a flame, viewers had a hard time taking their eyes off the Australian rapper. Though Ora sang to perfection, it was Iggy that transfixed the crowd and put them under a spell.

The camera took shots in the audience and you could see the celebrities all enjoying the show. Taylor Swift and 17-year-old BFF, Lorde were seen dancing and singing to Black Widow and having a fantastic time.

Black Widow rose to number 2 on the Billboard charts, the song coming from her album, The New Classic. Iggy has proven to be a star to be reckoned with, becoming the only other musician, other than the Beatles, to have two singles in the number 1 and 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The MTV VMA performance of Black Widow with Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora was a killer act and it definitely separated the children from the grown-ups.

The one thing from the night that have people wondering is what happened when Ariana Grande won for her hit Problem featuring the Black Widow singer. Oddly, only Grande went up to accept the moon man, though the

21-year-old singer did thank Iggy for appearing on the track. A camera got a shot of the Australian rapper while Grande was accepting the award and Iggy looked anything but pleased. Then again, Grande does seem to look like a bit of a prima donna compared to the down to earth and real Iggy.

Fans were also hoping to get to see Iggy do Fancy featuring Charli XCX, who was also in the house. Viewers were hoping that maybe a medley of the two would be performed but that was not the case. Iggy and Charli XCX did perform Fancy for a benefit pre-show on Friday night. It was during that show when Iggy was walking backwards while rapping and mistakenly backed right off the stage. The blonde trooper got right back up and continued the show, proving to be a professional in the industry.

Whether or not Iggy was dissed by Grande, the fact remains that the Australian rappers performance with Rita Ora at the VMAs was a killer one and a powerful visual as well. With Iggy Azalea breaking records and showing just how captivating she is, fans can bet that this young rapper isn’t likely to be going anywhere soon, except up, of course.
