Miranda Lambert is not only a country singer, but she is also an animal lover and in an effort to help homeless animals find their forever homes, she has opened up her very own no-kill shelter. The devoted dog lover who has seven of her own, took over a kill shelter in her hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and decided to transform it into the Redemption Ranch, a no-kill shelter, which opened over the weekend. The shelter is privately funded and sits on five acres of land.
Lambert who has her own foundation known as MuttNation took over the original animal shelter which was a kill shelter after an advocate by the name of Ray Lokey pushed for there to be a change. Lokey says that the original shelter would not only take up to 100 dogs in at a time but would also put the dogs to death by gassing them in a wooden kennel which was right next to living animals. The nonprofit MuttNation took over the property and refurbished and renovated the entire building.
The foundation made a number of improvements to the shelter prior to its reopening. They enlarged the kennels for the animals, added an intensive care unit to the building, added new fencing around the property and even added a new Airstream office. There were also some other personal Miranda Lambert touches that could be seen at Redemption Ranch. When the no-kill shelter opened over the weekend, people could see the addition of Lambert’s own personal style as well. The new entryway is now pink and on a covered porch there a number of pink rocking chairs featured.
Lambert’s Redemption Ranch is not the first time that the country singer has helped animals in need. Not only did she launch her nonprofit MuttNation Foundation but she has also worked with animal welfare groups in the past in an effort to make a change. She has even worked with Pedigree in an effort to help animals everywhere.
The new Redemption Ranch has a capacity of 50 dogs at a time and will work on what is known as an admissions basis. The shelter will not only offer special care to every dog that enters the facility but they also want to be a place that not only serves the dogs that are in need but the individuals who choose to adopt these special animals. A number of stars including Lambert’s husband Blake Shelton and Thomas Rhett have already donated to the shelter in an effort to keep it not only running but also in the best shape it can be.
Although Lambert did appear for the opening of her no-kill shelter, she did not speak to the press. Instead this was her way of keeping the focus on the animals and away from herself. Since the opening, the Redemption Ranch website states that over one dozen animals have already been adopted. Many of the individuals who have worked with Lambert say that animals are her cause and that she truly does care about the plight of the animals.
