The Vampire Diaries: The More You Ignore Me the Closer I Get [Recap/Review]

The Vampire Diaries

The More You Ignore Me the Closer I Get made it clear that nothing could go quite to plan on The Vampire Diaries. Elena was relying on Alaric giving her the memories of Damon back if he ever returned, and now it seems that is not going to happen. When Demon does return, she decides she wants her memories back, but all does not go to plan.

Before all that happens, Ivy is trapped with other vampires thanks to Tripp and he is on his way into magic-free Mystic Falls. Right when there is the possibility she will escape, The Vampire Diaries kills her off, presumably for good.

At the same time, Damon and Stefan discuss how he escaped. While fans know that Damon will decide to lie, it is Stefan who encourages that. It seems he really wants them to move on from all this, and Caroline is not going to like it when she finds out the truth, which she eventually will do. Damon and Stefan concoct the plan that he was alone the whole time, and Bonnie must have gone somewhere else.

Matt has never really enjoyed vampires, but he has always protected his friends. It seems that Enzo may becoming one of those friends. In The More You Ignore Me the Closer I Get, he turns to Caroline and Alaric, and in true The Vampire Diaries style Caroline decides that Enzo needs to be saved. Tripp is losing his patience, and will take Enzo over the border if he does not give Caroline and the group up soon.

While Matt is searching for files on Tripp’s computer, orphan Sarah busts him. She wants to know more information about her family, and decides the two can help each other out. Now that she knows Zach was her dad, Matt cannot help but tell her that her remaining family members are vampires. That does not make her want to leave, and when would it with The Vampire Diaries?

Stefan helps Caroline save Enzo, so he can make it up to Damon. However, it is clear the two are not friendly anymore. That was destroyed after the last episode, and she does not trust him to save Enzo. After all, Stefan wanted his revenge for Ivy’s murder.

Nothing can happen without Damon getting himself in trouble, though. Tripp finds him at Elena’s dorm and finds out that he is a vampire. Damon and Enzo end up in the van and on their way to Mystic Falls. Surely someone has a plan.

Luckily, Elena finds Damon’s phone on the floor, and tells the group. They get together with a plan, and go to save their friends. It does not quite go to plan, with all the boys almost dying. Alaric is so close to death that people do the unthinkable. When do they not to save the ones they love on The Vampire Diaries?

It turns out that his doctor girlfriend, Jo, knows all about the supernatural because she is a witch. She followed him and helped keep him alive when he was attacked on the other side of the border to Mystic Falls. The best way to save him was turn him into human. Of course that is bad news for Delena fans, because he can no longer compel her memories back. It does mean the two can fall in love all over again.

In the end it seems like Elena is willing to give Damon a chance. She wants to find out the full story, and feel that love for Damon again. The question is whether it will really happen as it did the first time since other memories of her feelings for Damon was tweaked. At least The More You Ignore Me the Closer I Get gives The Vampire Diaries fans some hope.
