Bruce Jenner Receives Mostly Support

Since coming out as a transgender woman, Bruce Jenner has received mostly support for his decision. Though some critics have weighed in on Jenner’s decision to live the remainder of his life as a woman, most fans, celebrities, and even the family are all behind the former Olympian. Stating that it is important for Jenner to be true to himself, even activist groups are backing Jenner and working to help him have the smoothest transition.

Jenner and his family all agree that the transition that he is wanting to make, will not be an easy one. As daughter Kylie Jenner has been the only family member to express the largest amount of concern, others have also expressed how difficult the process has been for them. Before Bruce went on television forĀ  an interview with Diane Sawyer, the family was posting their discrete support on social media. Then after the interview aired, the family continued to post comments reflecting nothing but support.

Using the hashtags #ProudDaughter and stating how much they loved their dad, the Kardashian girls and Jenner girls all expressed their thoughts on their dad’s journey. Even Jenner’s boy from his second marriage posted a picture of himself when he was younger, sitting on his dad’s shoulders. As it appears, from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, that Bruce has been a family man and spent years providing encouragement and support to his family, they believe it is important for them to provide the same to their dad, especially now.

In the interview with Diane Sawyer, Bruce stated that using male pronouns and referring to him by the name Bruce was still okay for now. He said that he had a new name picked out but was not comfortable revealing it just yet. Activists groups have stated that it is important that Bruce stay comfortable in his time of transition, and work at a pace that suits him.

GLAAD stated after the interview, that it is important to respect the wishes of the former Olympian, in continuing to use male pronouns and calling him by his current name. They spoke about how some people know the name and way that they want to be immediately and others do not. A source close to Bruce stated that he is trying to live life as a woman as much as possible, and trying to figure out what it means to him.

Celebrities also supported Jenner, showing their support through social media posts. Jennifer Lopez posted, “once a champion, always a champion.” Jimmy Fallon posted “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” and Carmen Carrera posted “I support HER!” Ellen DeGeneres, who also came out herself many years ago, posted “saving lives and opening minds.” Many others also posted supportive comments regarding Jenner’s announcement.

Statements made to Sawyer reflect that Bruce has always felt more like a woman, since being a young boy, he is excited to explore the other part of his life. Stating that his brain is more female than it is male, Bruce apparently began gender reassignment therapy in the 80’s. Though many have only seen him either by his Olympian legend or by his acts as a father and stepfather on the show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, his new show, supposedly coming out in June, will feature his transition to living life as a woman.

As many stand behind Jenner with love and support, it seems he is ready to move on with his life. As he has already been seen in photos, trying out his new style, fans are sure to see more from Jenner as he makes decisions on how he wants to live his life as a woman.
