James McAvoy got his head shaved for his role as Professor Charles Xavier, a.k.a. Professor X, in the upcoming movie, X-Men: Apocalypse. McAvoy has played the iconic X-Men character, Professor X, the leader of the X-Men before, but he has never played him as being bald, until now.
Probably when most fans of the X-Men comic books and movies think of Professor X, they picture him in their minds as being bald-headed, and possibly like how Patrick Stewart looks, because Stewart has played the character as being bald, like he is, himself. However, actor James McAvoy has played Professor X back in his younger days, before he became totally bald, in the movies X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
With Patrick Stewart having stated that he was not going to be in the upcoming movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, James McAvoy, 36, is, once again, taking a turn at playing the telepathic leader of the X-Men. It was perhaps inevitable that McAvoy would have to eventually get his head shaved if he was going to continue playing Professor X. Director Bryan Singer posted an Instragram photo of McAvoy getting his locks shaved off, to commemorate the occasion and give fans a first look at the actor as a bald-headed Professor X.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set in 1983, in the formative years of the X-Men, practically 20 years after Singer’s first X-Men movie in 2000. Fans of the X-Men movies have been waiting for the day when James McAvoy would finally get his head shaved to play Professor X, and that day has finally arrived. Whether the movie will get into how Professor X lost his hair, which supposedly happened as a side effect of his mutant powers, remains to be seen.
Though Patrick Stewart will not be in X-Men: Apocalypse, and neither will Ian McKellan, famous for having played the villainous character, Magneto, the movie will still feature many of today’s hottest actors and actresses playing members of the X-Men. Besides James McAvoy as a young Professor X, the flick will feature Jennifer Lawrence coming back and playing Raven and her alter-ego, Mystique; Rose Byrne, as Moira MacTaggert; Alexandra Shipp, as Storm; Michael Fassbender in the dual roles of Erik Lensherr and his alter-ego, Magneto; Olivia Munn playing the roles of Betsy Braddock / Psylocke; Evan Peters playing Peter and his alter ego, Quicksilver; Ben Hardy, playing Angel; Lana Condor as Jubilee; Nicholas Hoult in the roles of Hank McCoy and his alter-ego, Beast; Sophie Turner as a younger Jean Grey; and, Oscar Isaac will be playing the twin roles of En Sabah Nur better known as Apocalypse.
It has been rumored that Hugh Jackman might be in the movie, reprising his role as Wolverine. Also, possibly Channing Tatum will appear in the flick, as Gambit.
In the X-Men comic books, Professor X lost his hair when he was still in high school, at the age of 16. Though the details have not been officially released yet, there will probably be a somewhat different explanation of when and how he lost his hair in X-Men: Apocalypse.
X-Men fans got their first look at James McAvoy as a bald-headed Professor Charles Xavier courtesy of an Instagram photo released by director, Bryan Singer, on Friday. Previously, Singer has released photos via Instagram of Lana Condor in the role of Jubilee and also actress Sophie Turner in costume playing a young Jean Grey. The script for the movie was written by Simon Kinberg, and it is based on a story by Dan Harris, Mike Dougherty and Kinberg. The upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse has a scheduled release date of May 26, 2016.
