Nene Leakes’ decision to quit Real Housewives of Atlanta came right after Bravo rejected the reality star’s $5million per season offer, finding the amount ridiculously high since Leakes was already the highest paid TV-star on the network. Sources are alleging that producers of RHOA had hoped to scoop the 47-year-old for another series, despite the fact that the TV-personality was relatively absent during last season’s run.
Fans of the reality show will know that Leakes spent majority of her time rehearsing for her Cinderella Broadway play in New York City, keeping her far away from the girls in Atlanta who often stir drama that lead to outrageous fights and arguments. It was already suggested that the ageing Hollywood star would leave the show since she seemed completely uninterested in being around the likes of Kenya Moore and Kandi Burruss during the reunion special.
When the official announcement was made that Leakes had decided to quit the show, it was not long before sources would reveal the real reasons behind the businesswoman’s departure. Fans of the program agree that the former Celebrity Apprentice star has changed immensely since making her first appearance on the show in 2008 — many say that she has gone from witty and hilariously funny to cold-hearted, mean and boring. Yet despite all of these names, the ratings for the Atlanta series continued to dominate the rest of the Housewives franchises, averaging at 3.4million viewers per episode.
Though Leakes had shown a lack of interest when it came to involving herself with the rest of the cast, producers were still hoping that they could make a turnaround by giving the actress a raise that would see her embark on another series starting this summer. According to Naughty Gossip, however, the offer did not seem to be enough for the 47-year-old.
Her alleged salary from last season was $1.5million — this year, Leakes hoped to increase this amount to an alleged $5million. Had the deal gone through, she would have easily become the highest-paid reality star on television, beating Kim Kardashian who makes a whopping $100,000 per episode on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Producers for the Bravo show felt that the offer was outrageously high and had no other choice but to end their business relationship with the star. Leakes was said to have stressed that she is a businesswoman who is expanding her empire in more ways than one.
She has an upcoming clothing line being released, she just partnered up with Kim Kardashian on the Hollywood mobile game that has grossed over $200million, and her upcoming full-time appearance on a new sitcom that is airing this fall is already filming. If Bravo had wanted cameras to catch all of these exciting new ventures that the self-proclaimed diva is stepping into, they would have needed to pay up the money, but producers clearly do not think that the TV-star is worth the money that she had demanded from them.
