Spike's 2015 Guys Choice

During the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show this Thursday night, June 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV, guys (and some hot actresses and models) who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry, like actors Chris Pratt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, were among the guys who were honored by receiving awards. The guys receiving the awards were based upon the voting of fans and viewers of Spike TV.

The Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show was hosted by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, two stars of one of TV’s hottest shows of 2015, Empire. The show was taped on June 6, 2015 at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, and the winners were presented with golden pairs of antlers on a wooden pedestal.

At the beginning of the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show, Terrence Howard was dressed like a boxer wearing a red, white, and blue robe with stars and stripes on it. Henson came out wearing a gold-and-black robe, and then a bell rang indicating that the awards show…or battle…had begun. Howard and Henson were wearing dress clothes, Howard with a nice suit on and a black bow tie, and Henson had on a black dress for the festivities.

Zoe Saldana was the first presenter. She presented actor Chris Pratt with the first award of the evening, the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice Guy of the Year Award. Highlights and scenes from his career were shown before Pratt came up onto the stage to accept his award.

He thanked Zoe, who he said had “recently given birth to twins.” He gave a shout out to his wife at home and to all the men and women in uniform, as well as his agent. He said “I want to thank True Religion Jeans. I want to thank…the book, The Secret.”

Then, the house band played. The musicians were dressed up like abominable snowmen. Commercials, unfortunately, ensued.

Right after the break, Joseph Gordon-Levitt presented the next award on the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show. Chris Pratt was among the guys honored, but he did not get this one. The award was called the “Brass Balls” award, and it was presented to actor Sir Ben Kingsley, who will be starring in Spike TV’s limited series, Tut. Kingsley said he had “just been shooting” with “Joseph.”

Then, the next award on the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show, the Top Fantasy Leaguer award went to Russell Westbrook. The award was presented to him by model Chanel Iman.

Following more commercials, when the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show returned, hosts Henson and Howard decided to give each other awards. Henson said the award she was giving to Howard was the “Riding My Coattails Award.” They kidded each other back and forth, before Henson called Howard “a dear friend.”

From Joe Dirt 2, Dave Spade presented the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show award to Hannah Davis for Our New Girlfriend. She said that she was giving out her email, but began it with Chrissy Teigen’s name.

Then, on the the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show, Jake Gyllenhaal received the award for Hollywood Guycon. Scenes from his many memorable movies were shown, before he came onto the stage to accept the award. He said that he will be in a movie coming out later this year, Southpaw.” He also thanked “all of the men and women of the Armed Forces.”

When the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show, Ben Kingsley was one of the presenters of the next award, called the Biggest A** Kicker award. It went to none other than…Liam Neeson. He definitely has a “unique set of skills.”

Liam thanked Kingsley and “the troops.” He told the audience to “stay classy.”

Co-host of the show and Empire star, Taraji P. Henson, was next presented with an actual award on the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show. For her own feisty attitude and set of special acting skills, she was given the Jean-Claude Ghad Dam award.

Clint Eastwood was the presenter on Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show, of the Special “Hero” Award from the Troops in Attendance. It was presented to…Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He announced the upcoming “Rock the Troops” Music and Entertainment Event to honor the U.s. troops serving overseas.

He joined forces with Spike TV and Casey Patterson Entertainment to plan the first event, which will happen overseas on Veterans Day 2016. Johnson invited the servicemen and servicewomen in the audience up onto the stage with him.

After yet another commercial break, Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show came back and the hosts introduced LL Cool J, who performed for the first time in 30 years. First, scenes from his career and videos were shown. Then, he came onto the stage and sang a medley of his hits like I’m Gonna Knock You Out, Jack the Ripper, and Going Back to Cali.

LL Cool J was presented with the G.O.A.T. award on Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show. The acronym stands for Greatest Of All Time. He showed he can still sing and perform at a very high level with his amazing performance.

He gave “a shout out to all of the troops in the building” and he said — he will be having new music coming out. That should be well worth waiting for, for all of his millions of fans.

After another break, Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show was back. The hosts did a comedy piece about recognizing that “you might be the side piece” in a relationship. Henson raised her glass and said “Here’s to all you side pieces!”

Spike's 2015 Guys Choice

Next, Liam Neeson was the presenter of Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show award for “Decade of Hotness.” The award went to…Salma Hayek. Like with the other actors, scenes from her many memorable movies were shown before she went up onto the stage to accept her award.

A decade of time has not lessened Hayek’s hotness. She talked about the sacrifices that all of the servicemen and servicewomen have made, and thanked all of the guys for having voted for her to receive the award.

After another commercial break, Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog joked about Johnny Depp smuggling his dogs into Australia, He said “He should of named his dogs ‘Lone Ranger’ and ‘Mordecai,’ and then no one would have seen them.” He joked about Bill Cosby, saying “I don’t know about you guys, but I feel a little bit sleepy tonight.” He blamed the “bartender,” showing a photo of Cosby.

Johnny Knoxville presented the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show award for “Funniest M.F.” to actress, author, talk show host and comedienne, Chelsea Handler. Knoxville was dressed in a grey suit with a white shirt and red-and-white tie. He said that he could not wait for her Netflix show to come on.

Scenes from her talk show and other appearances were shown. She has never been one to shy away from controversial topics or worried about getting bleeped by the censors. In fact, she got bleeped several times while just giving her acceptance speech.

Spike's 2015 Guys Choice

The final award on the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show was presented by the incredible actor, Robert De Niro. He presented “The Best Ever” award to Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. for his tremendous skills as a boxer and boxing promoter. De Niro said he played a fighter in Raging Bull and in Grudge Match, but Floyd Mayweather, he said, “is the real thing.”

Highlights from Mayweather’s past boxing victories were shown before Mayweather accepted his award. De Niro told him “Congratulations, champ!”

Mayweather thanked Spike TV and everybody who has helped him along the way, and all of his fans, and the troops and soldiers who were “fighting for our country.”

Granted, the Spike’s 2015 Guys Choice awards show was taped, not live, but it was still a pretty cool awards show with a lot of big name celebs honored. Also, any time that the servicemen and servicewomen of America get honored, is well worth talking about, writing about, and getting televised. Chris Pratt was among the guys honored with an award, along with other manly guys like Dwayne Johnson and Liam Neeson.
