Taylor Swift rings in 2019 by giving the fans Reputation.
The pop superstar said goodbye to 2018 by releasing on Netflix a full-length concert film which was based on her ‘Reputation’ album and the tour which was built around it.
According to Billboard, ‘Reputation’ was 2018’s best selling album selling more than Drake’s ‘Scorpion.’ Swift also had the largest selling tour in U.S. history, Pollstar reported.
The concert film on Netflix is comprised of footage from the last show of the U.S. part of the tour in front of 60,000 fans singing along to every song at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas. It was filmed using 28 cameras.
The concert, of course, featured pyrotechnics, fireworks, elaborate stage sets and was it mentioned an inflatable cobra called Karyn? There were also special appearances from Charli XCX and Camila Cabello.
The concert film begins showing clips of the Grammy-winning singer and people reading headlines about her while sang ‘Ready For It? and followed by ‘I Did Something Bad.
Swift addressed the crowd telling them that this is her 30th show in the area thanking them for being there on the last leg of her United States tour, she then burst into her song ‘Gorgeous.’
In between songs during a break, Swift told everybody the purpose behind the people in the audiences wearing bracelets that light-up.
She stated she wanted the bracelets on this tour because it is the first time she had a tour only consisting of stadiums. Since the stadiums are so big she wanted to ensure she was able to see everybody. No matter where a fan was located, they should know Swift could see them.
In a particularly human moment, later in the show, she mentioned she had a cold. With that, the pop star was handed a tissue by someone named Giuseppe and she blew her nose. Despite Taylor Swift’s Reputation, she showed the audience she is just like everybody else.
The Grammy Winner went on to discuss the process she goes through to write songs and began singing ‘All Too Well.’
Swift told the audience that she resumed playing older songs because the fans requested them. She stated that she had a lot of fun playing her old material because she did not play them in a very long time.
Near the end of the movie which was two-hours, Swift once spoke with the crowd and said she was the voice for everybody who helped make the tour possible and that included Camila Cabello and Charlie XCX. She stated that she never could have imagined she would be on such a big stage with the size of crowds present at her gigs. She felt as if she was in a dream. She then thanked the security at her concerts and those who built the stage sets.
She then ended by saying that there never would have been a show or an elaborate stage for her to perform on if the fans didn’t want to see the show, and the song she was about to perform was about all the fans. With that, Swift ended with ‘Long Live.’
Taylor Swift proved with her tour that she is here to stay and her Reputation of being a top artist will remain intact for many years to come.
