TurnerBryce Turner a sophomore and football Cornerback at the University of California, Berkeley died on Saturday.  He was 19-years-old.

The school commented about his death on Twitter.  They reported that they had lost a much loved member of the Cal family.  RIP Bryce.  You will live on forever within our hearts.

On Dec. 30, Turner was hospitalized in Southern California near his residence.  His family stated that he had a medical emergency, but would not elaborate regarding what happened.  The school did not state the cause of death.

Sources stated that the medical emergency the family referred to occurred while Turner was working out, but would not give any further information.

Cal Coach Justin Wilcox released a statement saying that they were all saddened deeply by the passing of Turner and that it was a difficult time for everyone.  Sympathies go out to the family of Bryce, his teammates, and many friends.  Words can not describe the pain everybody was feeling.  Bryce will always be remembered. He had a great impact on everybody who is with Cal football.

Cal athletic director Jim Knowlton issued a statement saying that what happened is an unfathomable tragedy.  Turner’s future was bright. He was an important member of the Cal family and team. He lost his life too soon and will be sorely missed.  Thoughts and prayers go out to Turner’s friends, teammates, coaches, and family during this extremely difficult time.  The Cal family will support one another, Bryce’s family, the students and everybody in the Cal community through the process of grieving.

In 2014, Cal suffered a tragedy similar to this one when Ted Agu who was the defensive lineman and a carrier of Sickle Cell died in Berkeley after he completed a workout with the team.

Turner went to St. John Bosco Prep. In 2016 he played for Long Beach City College before joining Cal. He also participated this season in a game with the Golden Bears.
