Police verify to WGN News on Monday at 6:40 pm PT that there was a shooting at the Orland Park Mall on Orland Square Drive in Illinois.
ABC7-News reported a 19-year-old man was wounded during the shooting and was transported to the hospital listed in critical condition.
A witness spoke with ABC7-News who did not wish for her name to be released. She says that she was at the checkout counter at Victoria’s Secret Pink lingerie store along with her younger sister when the shooting broke out. The witness said she did not hear the gunfire, but the other customers in the store yelled at her to get down. The witness protected her sister and employees ushered them to a storage area located at the back area of the store.
Oscar Arribe, who lives in Oak Forest, said he heard shots ring out while he was walking on the first level of the Orlando Square Mall. He said that he heard shooting that came from an upper level. Arribe ran for safety when he heard the shots. He said there was a lot of people running, chaos and commotion.
Another witness, Diana Serna, reported she was with her family. They were getting ready to leave the mall at 7:30 pm PT. She barricaded herself inside JCPenny’s with her family for 40 minutes.
The shooter remains at large.
