Pete Buttigieg a Married Gay Man Is Running for President [Video]

ButtigiegOn Jan. 23, 2019 Two-term South Bend, Indiana mayor Peter Buttigieg, announced he was running for President. Buttigieg made the announcement by a video which featured his husband Chasten and dog Buddy.

Even though it is a long-shot if Buttigieg won the Democratic nomination, he would be the first openly gay person to become a nominee for a major political party. It would be historic if he defeated Trump.

37-year-old Buttigieg announced on Twitter that he launched a presidential exploratory committee because he wanted to focus on changing the future. He then asked his followers if they are ready to walk away from what has been happening in politics.

Buttigieg is an Afghanistan veteran serving his tour in 2014 and is from Vice President’s home state. A Rhodes Scholar, he was elected mayor at the age of 29 in 2011, which made him the youngest mayor of a U.S. city that has a population of 100,000 residents or more.

After announcing he was running for president, Buttigieg told reporters when he joined the military ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ was in effect.

In 2017 Buttigieg ran for chairman of the Democratic National Committee but withdrew after he realized he did not have enough support to win the nomination.

While running for a second term as mayor, Buttigieg came out in a local newspaper. He won re-election in a landslide. In 2018 he married his husband, Chasten Glezman who is a middle school teacher.
