Andy Anderson, the former drummer of The Cure from 1983 to 1984 and collaborator of Iggy Pop and Robert Smith, died from cancer on Feb. 26, 2019. He was 26 years old.
On Feb. 17 Anderson wrote on his Facebook Page that he had terminal cancer. The musician wrote:
I have Terminal Stage 4 Cancer, and there is no way of recovering from that, it is covering the inside of my body, and I am ok, and I understand and am aware of my situation. I have decided to go for a do not resuscitate. I have a next of kin ready, and I do not want them to be looking at me as a vegetable.
He continued by telling fans to be positive and no crying. Anderson considered it another life experience and one last hurdle. People should be cool; he is and is positive about his situation.
In 1983 Anderson joined The Cure after Lol Tolhurst who was the original drummer became the band’s keyboardist. Anderson played on The Cure’s album’s “Japanese Whispers, “1984 Live Album Concert,” and “The Top.” He also played on the singles “The Caterpillar” and “Love Cats.”
Anderson also worked with Peter Gabriel, Steve Hillage, Midge Ure, and Iggy Pop.
