FargoOn Feb. 7, 2019, smoke at a Wells Fargo data center left customers without access to ATMs and mobile banking.

Montana KULR-TV reports a Wells Fargo bank employee explained the outage is due to a fire at a server located in Shoreview, Minnesota resulting the servers being shut down.

CNBC reports the incident was discovered during routine maintenance at 5 a.m CT and was controlled by 9 a.m. As of late Thursday, the issue had not been resolved.

Wells Fargo released a statement saying that the issue was not due to an attack or cybersecurity issue, and is a contained issue affecting one of the facilities. They were diligently working to resolve the situation.

People took to Twitter complaining they were unable to use ATMs, pay bills, or use their charge cards. The complaints were nationwide, particularly on the East Coast and in California.

This is not the first time Wells Fargo has had problems with online and mobile banking. On Feb. 1, less than a week ago, some Wells Fargo customers were unable to access their mobile banking and online banking.

Wells Fargo is the fourth-largest United States bank. People visiting the bank’s website were greeted by a message saying they were experiencing technical difficulties.
