Avicii was one of the most successful and popular dance music artists ever. In 2013 he hit Number 4 on Billboard with his song “Wake Me Up.” Regularly, he was listed in the Top 5 of the “Highest Paid DJ” Forbes list.

In 2016 Avicii retired from performing live, while he was at the height of his success, stating health reasons were the cause.

Avicci suffered from multiple medical ailments for several years. Most notably, due to heavy drinking, he was inflicted with acute pancreatitis.

In 2014 he had his appendix and gallbladder removed. Avicii stated after his surgery he became clean and stopped drinking, but Nile Rodgers, his musical collaborator, and several friends said otherwise. They reported he continued to drink and often criticized him for it.
