On March 28, 2019, Jacob Sullivan was sentenced to death for the murder, rape, and dismemberment of Grace Packer who was 14 years old and resided in Abington, Pennsylvania.
Judge Diane E. Gibbons from Bucks County told Sullivan that he has no soul. She also said he was not human before giving him the death sentence and sending him to death row.
46-year-old Sullivan admitted in February that in 2016 he raped, kidnapped and killed Packer, who was his girlfriend’s adopted daughter.
Together with the mother of the girl, Sara Packer, Sullivan attacked the little girl and killed her by strangulation. The couple dismembered the body with a bow saw, stored it in kitty litter and dumped the parts in the woods located in Luzerne County.
A jury which consisted of six women and six men in a Doylestown courtroom recommended the death penalty. The relatives of Packer and jurors cried as they made the announcement which took only 11 hours of deliberation.
On March 17, the jurors said they could not come to a conclusion, and the judge told them to keep working. If they remained deadlocked, Sullivan would have received a life sentence.
Sullivan remained handcuffed as his sentence was read, and his relatives were not present at the sentencing. The jurors were polled individually if they agreed with the punishment of death. May wept or appeared tearful when they said that they agreed.
