Jeremy Richman, Father of 6-Year-Old Sandy Hook Victim Commits Suicide


Jeremy Richman, the father of Avielle Richman, a six-year-old victim of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 committed suicide on March 25, 2019. He was 49 years old.

Newton police said they received a call at 7 am EST to investigate a suicide in an office building at the Edmond Town Hall in Connecticut, where Richman worked. When they arrived, they found his body.

In a statement, the police said that Richman’s death appears to have occurred due to suicide. They said it was not suspicious, and would not disclose details about the death or the method used.

Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde stated that the death was heartbreaking not only to the Richman family but to the entire Newton Community. The Police were with the family and requested privacy for them during this difficult time.

Richmans’ body was transferred for an autopsy at the State Medical Examiner of Connecticut.

Richman started the Avielle Foundation in honor of his daughter. The foundation was a charity aimed to prevent violence.
