
John Singleton’s mother, Sheila Ward, on April 25, 2019, applied for temporary conservatorship of his estate.
The famed director suffered a major stroke and is now in a coma.
Court documents say that Ward wrote the director suffered a stroke on April 14. The paperwork continues saying he is in the hospital, comatose, and unable to care for himself.
Ward said 51-year-old Singleton was involved in numerous projected and was signing at the end of the month a settlement agreement.
The documents continued by saying the conservatorship needed to be established to prevent significant financial loss.
Last week, after a trip to Costa Rica, Singleton started to experience weakness in his legs and brought himself to the hospital.
The Singleton family said at the time that he suffered a stroke while he was at the hospital and was transferred to ICU, and was receiving wonderful medical care.
The family asked for privacy during this challenging time and appreciated all the prayers that were coming from his friends, colleagues, and fans.
In 1992 Singleton was the first African American and the youngest person to be nominated for Best Director for the Academy Award for his film “Boyz n the Hood.”
