There is no reason, no excuse why Trump remains a free man. Any other American who is not a politician would be in a federal prison waiting for trial. January 6, 2021 happened 26 months ago, and our nation’s greatest traitor remains a free man, and plans to run for the presidency in 2024. He stole dozens of classified documents, planning to exchange them for favors from foreign nations. Trump is the greatest affront to the Law of the Land in history. I demand that he be locked up or tell the truth, all politicians are above the law.
Politicians Never Receive Punishment Fairly for Their Crimes
Throughout our country’s history, politicians have escaped punishment for their crimes, regardless how serious those crimes might be.
Vice-President Aaron Burr went to trial for treason in 1807. He was accused of urging some nations to leave the Union. He received acquittal at trial because no war ensued.
Benedict Arnold’s name is frequently used when describing extreme acts of treason. However, although Arnold deserted the Colonies and joined the invading British army, he was never captured or tried.
Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederacy, never faced trial for his attempts to overthrow the government of the United States, and the loss of about 620,000 lives. Reconciliation was more important than doing the right thing. Not a single leader of the Confederacy went to trial for treason in a court of law.
More Crimes But No Punishment
Lesser crimes committed by well-known politicians never resulted in a fair form of punishment. These include former Republican Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich. Originally charged with 12 felonies and multiple ethics violations, the charges were reduced to a single count, and his resignation resulted in the abandonment of a trial. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
Spiro Agnew, Richard Nixon’s first Vice-President, was charged with tax evasion. To avoid a trial, he resigned and was fined the minimal amount of $10,000. You might remember that the only crime famous mob boss, Al Capone, was convicted of was tax evasion. He died in prison. Agnew never underwent indictment.
Dennis Hastert, former leader of the Evangelical wing of Christians in America, and former Speaker of the House, underwent accusation of paying “hush money” to a man he allegedly sexually assaulted when he was younger. There was an undisclosed settlement and he never received punishment.
Neither President George W. Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney or any other member of the Bush Administration received charges for lying to Congress and the American People. Their lies about Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction, with the intent of harboring them for Al Qaeda, resulted in the illegal invasion of Iraq. Tens of thousands of people died, and hundreds of billions of dollars wasted on an unwinnable and illegal war.
The Most Corrupt Government in the Free World
Our government in Washington is undeniably the most corrupt in the world. The former examples offer an explanation why so many criminals choose a career in politics. They will go unpunished for their crimes. This brings us to 2023, and the biggest criminal in American history: Donald John Trump.
The Most Prolific Criminal in American History
There is irrefutable proof that Trump averaged one crime every day he was in office. It is regrettable that most will be forgotten because of the egregious and unforgivable effects of his three major failures to perform his job within his two final years in the White House.
At the beginning of 2020, as the pandemic began to spread across Europe, Trump told the American people that “it won’t affect us: it will just go away.” Not only did it not ‘go away,’ more than one-million Americans died, and our nation grew closer to a second Great Depression because he failed to lead the people he promised to serve.
On January 6, 2021, while remaining our nation’s sitting president, Trump organized, planned, and executed an attempted coup. The insurrection went for three hours and millions of Americans witnessed it, including yours truly. We will remember this single day as, “the darkest day in American history.”
Documents at Mar-a-Lago
His third major crime was the theft of an estimated 14 boxes of classified documents on January 20, 2021 as he left the White House and moved to Mar-a-Lago. Then he lied to the FBI, which is in itself a crime, claiming that he had returned all of the documents to the national archives. He hid dozens of these secret papers all over Mar-a-Lago. The FBI later discovered them in a raid.
And yet, Trump remains free, and I doubt that he will ever receive fair punishment for his many, many crimes. He remains another failed and corrupt politician.
