One of the lessons I have learned in my nearly 77 years is that we baby boomers have never received the respect we deserve. No generation has been forced to accept more changes than those of us who were born at the end of WWII.
More Than Anything Else, Electronics Changed Our World
Like most people my age, I grew up in the age of television. I continue to love sitcoms, and crime shows which are fictional. I have never watched a single “reality” show because I have a better than average intelligence. These shows are scripted with directors and other professionals behind the cameras creating situations which encourage viewership. These horrible shows are nothing more than bad soap operas and badly written cartoons.
I am making a point. I was born in July of 1946. Other original baby boomers and I were forced to react quickly to more changes than any other generation in America. We are not privileged, nor are we ignorant about our surroundings.
The question becomes, “is change good?” The honest answer is, “not always.”
America Has Changed, and Not for the Better
As a nation our values have changed. Over the last few decades America has become the “what about me” nation. Our concern for others has been put to the side in many instances. Even those who claimed that we were a “great country” must admit that we are a “lesser” nation in the 21st century.
Over the last 10 years, while writing for two newspapers and several blogs, I have learned a great deal about politics. There is no dissension about the fact that professional politicians are the most loathsome individuals in the world. They choose to be incompetent and place their futures ahead of the people they are designated to serve.
Trump Should Be in a Prison Awaiting Trial for Treason
Case in point. What most of us have known since 2020, and what those close to Donald Trump have confirmed. He was fully aware that there was no voter fraud. His “big lie” was simply another con game played upon the American people. The sad part of this story is that the mainstream media failed its responsibility, ignoring the reason for their protection under the First Amendment to inform the American people about the truth.
Moscow Mitch the Greatest Failure in the History of the Senate
Of equal importance is the fact that Moscow Mitch McConnell remains our nation’s greatest traitor. He will say and do anything, including his denial that January 6, 2021 was an attempted coup by his former president, if it keeps himself and his party in power.
I and my fellow original baby boomers are not fools, we are historians who lived through every treasonous event in our nation’s history post WWII.
I Pay Attention to What Happens in Washington
Many older Americans like myself who do not live in “red states” stay informed and patriotic. I have lived through 14 presidents, 13 of whom I remember. At the age of 10, I became interested in politics. I remember watching the second convention and nomination of Dwight D. Eisenhower. John F. Kennedy won the presidency the year I entered high school. My senior class dedicated a bust of the man we admired when we graduated in 1964.
I did not receive a draft notice for the war in Vietnam, because I enlisted in the USAF in September of 1964. Discharged for medical reasons, I was sad and angry as the corpses of young men my age returned home in body bags for no apparent reason.
Waging Wars Is Pure Ignorance
In nearly 247 years our leaders in Washington have failed to learn one irrefutable fact: no one wins a war. The truth is that the Pentagon has lost every war in which it has engaged in since WWII.
Every generation hopes to leave their world better than before. This will not happen for me. No one in Washington can be trusted, and few of those we elect care about our future.
Yes, I am pessimistic. I know too much. I do not believe that the United States will exist by the end of this century. In its current situation it is unsalvageble.
Prove me wrong. It’s up to you.
