Hip hop star Lecrae recently stopped by BET’s 106 & Park to perform and afterwards sat down with the show’s hosts rapper/actor Bow Wow and Angela Simmons as the three chatted about the state of hip hop.
Founder of the indie label Reach Records and member of the 116 clique. Lecrae has been creating hip hop with a message and signing christian artists since his debut album release of WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS. Now, the hip hop star has made quite the name for himself and his 116 clique as they continue to spread the gospel through hip hop music.
Recently, Lecrae stopped by BET’s 106 & Park and provided the audience with a refreshing hip hop performance and afterwards Lecrae sat down with 106 & Park’s hosts Bow Wow and Angela Simmons. During the interview Lecrae was asked about Chief Keef and his wanting to be baptized, Lecrae has since regretted his answer and wish he would of elaborated more. After the show Lacrae said, “If I’m honest, the Chief Keef question I was asked on ‘106 and Park’ threw me for a loop. I wasn’t ready for that one. I don’t think they were asking a theological question as much as they were asking about his sincerity and I wanted to demonstrate grace. I had a lot on my mind, fighting thru internal pressure, and time restrictions. So I was beating myself up a bit after that wishing I could go back and elaborate more, but by God’s grace I ran into Keef that night and got to chop it up with him! I’m sincerely praying for him and do believe God is up to something.”
During the interview Lecrae’s response was, “I respect anybody’s decision to say, ‘You know, I need a closer relationship with God.’ And I think we just all need people in our lives to help us walk through that. If Chief Keef’s got [those] type of people around him, then more power to him.”
Also, Lecrae was asked about his faith and his music in which Lecrae said that he is of the christian faith, that is his religion but his music is hip hop.
