The Walking Dead Time To Get Your Zombie Face On

Get your zombie face on.

As the time grows ever nearer to the AMC The Walking Dead marathon that starts on July 4, We’re saying it’s time to get your zombie face on! At one o’clock on Thursday, AMC are their kicking off the three season marathon with episode one of season one. Rick Grimes has got on his stetson and heading out to find his family after waking from a coma to a whole new world that’s filled with flesh eating zombies.

The marathon takes us back to the 2010 beginning, where sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes got wounded in a shootout with some armed criminals. He wakes up weeks later from a coma in an abandoned and badly damaged hospital. When he leaves Rick discovers a post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies, or “walkers”, as they are often referred to in-show.

Rick finds out that his wife and son are missing and he encounters two survivors, Morgan Jones and his son Duane, who tell him what’s been happening while he was “out-of-it.” Acting on a rumor the two had heard, he arms himself and takes off on a dangerous journey to Atlanta, Georgia to find the CDC. They’ve been set up in the city as part of a quarantined safe-zone in the city.

But when he reaches Atlanta, he finds out that the city has instead been overrun by walkers.

A few miles just outside of the city, Rick’s wife Lori and son Carl have been hiding from the walkers with Shane Walsh, Rick’s partner and best friend. Unfortunately, Shane has fallen hard for his old partners wife and she seems to feel the same towards him. They’ve established a camp with a small group of fellow survivors.

After being rescued from Atlanta by members of the group and reunited with Lori and Carl, Rick assumes command with Shane. A band of walkers eventually find and attack the camp killing several people. The ones who are still alive run to get help from the CDC.

In the CDC, every staff member bar one, Dr. Edwin Jenner, have either run off or killed themselves. Dr. Jenner explains that his research into the infection hasn’t come up with a cure, and he has not been in contact with anyone for a very long time. Lack of fuel for the emergency generators starts the building’s safety protocols, which will automatically trigger an explosion that will destroy the facility and prevent the escape of deadly diseases.

Jenner and a member of Rick’s group, Jacqui, decide to stay and end their struggle. Jenner whispers something into Rick’s ear, and the group manage to escape just as the CDC is burnt to ashes in the explosion.

So there you have a very condensed recap of season one of The Walking Dead. Something that you won’t need once the marathon starts. But don’t forget the “behind the scenes” feature that Comic Book Men executive producer Kevin Smith is hosting from the Atlanta-based set where the guys and gals are currently filming Season 4 of the hit series. You’ll need to get your zombie face on while watching this run-up to the marathon.

Season one will air twice on July 4, featuring marathons of both the original and special black-and-white editions. Season two will be on Friday July 5, and season three will be spread out over Saturday and Sunday. Each program of this four-day event will start at 1PM/12c.

The Walking Dead have a huge, devoted fan base. The show also has its “sex symbols” and favourite characters. Actor Norman Reedus, as Daryl Dixon is a very popular character and could be The Walking Dead “poster boy” for fans and don’t forget that man people love to hate, Daryl’s brother Merle, aka Michael Rooker.

But there are characters aplenty to get attached to in the comic book based television series. And it’s going to be real treat to view the show’s origins again in preparation for The Walking Dead’s return this October with brand new episodes. So make sure that you get your zombie face on in time for the July 4 marathon weekend.
