Selena Gomez wins the Teen Choice Award for the Choice Breakup song with her song Come and Get It, and it looks like Justin Bieber’s ex has gotten something from her relationship with the Bieb’s after all. She was sitting next to her gal pal Miley Cyrus when the announcement came.
Selena’s competition for the award was pretty stiff; the nominees were:
“Come and Get It,” Selena Gomez
“DONE.,” The Band Perry
“Stay,” Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko
“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” Taylor Swift
“When I Was Your Man,” Bruno Mars
Selena showed the world at the TCA event just how she got to be number two on Maxim’s sexiest women list earlier this year by turning up at the event in a double slit dress that spelt sexy sophistication. We imagine that Justin Bieber was kicking himself at losing that one!
Earlier in the year, the 21 year-old singer wowed the audience at the MTV Movie Awards with her rendition of the TCA winning song, Come and Get It. She stepped out of her shoes and into a Bollywood type of red sari with with gold necklaces around her neck and an elaborate bindi on her forehead. She said on the night that, “I’m nervous. I really am, but my dancers and my band, we’ve worked on it for the past six days. I mean hopefully it will pay off. We really want to put on a show.”
But tonight there was no sign of nerves as she got ready to attend the Teen Choice Awards. She was dressed to impress on the green carpet before entering and taking her seat next to Miley Cyrus. Selena Gomez must be very happy winning the Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakup Song at this years ceremony.
The Teen Choice Awards is an annual event that is broadcast on the Fox Network. The show honours that years biggest achievements in music, movies, sports, television, fashion, and more, The winners are selected after they have been voted for by teens from the age of 13 to 19.
Winners at the TCA receive a real full sized surfboard that has graphics of that year’s award show emblazoned on the board.
Since the award ceremony’s start, the organisers have given out the $800 custom made surfboards to the winner. Each year sees a new design on the boards. The surfboard was chosen to be the award as it represents the freedom of summer vacation for teenagers. In the past, some of the recipients used the boards to surf, Jennifer Love Hewitt certainly did. When Marlon Wayans got his he said, “Brothers don’t surf.” Hugh Jackman said, after winning her first award in 2009, that he was now no longer the only Australian without a surfboard.
Miley Cyrus has been nominated the most times out of her “peer group” coming in at a staggering 41 times. Selena is tied in a three way split at 24 nominations with Katy Perry and Demi Lovato.
This year’s award ceremony was hosted by Darren Criss and Lucy Hale. Lea Michele made her first public appearance since Cory Monteith’s death in Vancouver last month and she paid tribute to her late boyfriend as she accepted the award for Choice TV actress in a comedy.
Selena Gomez winning the Teen Choice Award for her Come and Get It as the Choice Breakup Song of 2013 must have made her and her fans very happy.
