A sure sign of becoming a cultural icon is when an performer gets their very own action figure. Ever since Hasbro developed the world’s first action figure in 1964 with its creation of G I Joe, the plastic re-creations have evolved into a specialist type of star related merchandise. After morphing into replicas of popular television cartoon figures, a la Masters of the Universe, Marvel Legends et al, popular human characters began being created in plastic form. Now Miley Cyrus has gotten her own action figure complete with a twerking bobble butt.
The timing could not be better. Not only is the 20 year-old former Hannah Montana one of the most “news worthy” celebs of 2013, but, she has managed to become a part of the year’s pop culture. And HeroBuilders.com, an American toy company, has made a new Miley Cyrus figure that not only recreates her controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance but it can twerk.
The Miley action figure is dressed in a replication of her VMA costume. The figure is bent over with its tongue out and nether regions facing the sky. It also comes complete with a twerking bobble butt. The base that the Cyrus figure stands upon has twerk! across the front.
It also appears that the ex Disney princess may be the first performer to have their own action figure made by the American toy manufacturing company. Most figures are made to represent an actor’s character; Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in the image of Sara Michelle Gellar; Lee Majors as the Six Million Dollar Man, et al. But Miley joins the ranks of personalities who have their own plastic images.
The Wrecking Ball singer, and recent host of Saturday Night Live, has had her own personal “twerking” image preserved in plastic for the ages. The timing is very good in terms of the run up to Christmas. HeroBuilders have come up with the perfect stocking filler for that teen boy, or girl, who idolises the sexualised pop star.
HeroBuilders specialise in pop culture and iconic action figures. They have produced replicas of Kate Middleton; a zombie President Barrack Obama; Anthony Weiner; Sarah Palin; and others political or cultural personalities. Unfortunately, the company is only selling two Miley figures per household. So if there are more than two fans of Cyrus under the same roof they will have to share.
The site offers other “made-to-order” figures that include a personal candy dispenser that “looks like you!” At least according to the website they do. The Miley Cyrus figure is only $29.95 and only 5000 of the “dolls” have been made. HeroBuilder promise that 2500 will be shipped and delivered “before the holidays.”
We have included a “twerking Miley Cyrus” GIF that the website uses on their advertisement of the figure below.
As you can see from the “twerking gif” the figure is a brilliantly tacky recreation of Cyrus’ VMA number. As pointed out at the beginning of this article, Miley Cyrus has definitely reached the status of cultural pop icon for 2013. She must be pleased that the company recreated her image, not in a doll, but a tacky looking twerking bobble butt action figure that. Very apropos.
