Just when it seemed that Obamacare was going to be slid to the back of the public’s attention shelf, Lee Aronsohn made a humorous video message about the new bill that makes a valid point. Americans, on the whole, have not welcomed the idea of affordable healthcare for all. Unlike their English cousins who have had the National Health Service (NHS) for years, the U.S. has always insisted on making free enterprise the basis for medical matters.
Lee Aronsohn may not be familiar to everyone, but those folks who watch comedy television will know exactly who he is. This 61 year-old writer, composer and producer co-created Two and a Half Men in 2003 and he co-wrote show’s theme music as well. The show is still a fan favorite and although Charlie Sheen left the series rather dramatically, to be replaced by Ashton Kutcher, CBS renewed the comedy for another season earlier this month.
Aronsohn has written for a lot of comedy programs. The Big Bang Theory, Cybill, Murphy Brown, Charles in Charge and The Love Boat. He also created the 1997 television comedy series Life…and Stuff.
Lee has also directed no less than four episodes of Two and a Half Men. So it should come as no surprise that the humorous video message on Obamacare was put together by Aronsohn himself and that he uses comedy to make a valid point. Reading the description at the bottom of the YouTube video, it states that all the dialog was “lifted verbatim from the comments section” of multiple conservative websites.
The video was posted on March 19, 2014 and it humorously pokes fun at the Obamacare bill’s vocal, and younger, detractors. Featuring a young, and apparently successful man, complete with designer hair and a designer girlfriend talking to the camera while heading for his car.
He begins his “rant” by saying that he is young and healthy, why should he pay for something that will subsidise “old sick people.” His amused girlfriend allows him to talk uninterrupted as this young healthy chap makes his point.
The premise that the care bill was only set up to aid the “sick and old” or “moochers and freeloaders” was taken off website comments left by young conservatives, these rather insulting statements were among the many complaints about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the sites that Lee was perusing when the idea for the video came to him, “full-blown.”
His idea of a “young invincible” suddenly being hit with “devastating” health care costs could make a valid point of how the ACA or Obamacare is there for everyone to use, not just the poor and the elderly. The unexpected conclusion of the video shows, as if any proof were needed that the Two and a Half Men co-creator equals humor to the nth degree, that Lee can use his talent to humorously get an idea across.
Lee Aronsohn, with his humorous video message about Obamacare has hit the metaphorical nail on the head with this short 58 second clip and his valid point makes the viewer stop and think. After being posted for only four days, the YouTube mini advert has had over 7,000 views and it continues to rise. Humor is a great way to get folks to listen and if they can have a chuckle or two while learning something new, that’s even better. Watch Lee’s video and see what you think. Are you invincible?
