Star James Garner, who had two hit television shows a decade apart, Maverick in the 1960’s and The Rockford Files in the 1970’s has been reported dead at the age of 86. TMZ announced the film and television star had been found dead in his Los Angeles home after an ambulance responded to Garner’s residence at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The actor’s first hit television show was Maverick, a western that ran from 1957 to 1962. Garner starred as Bret, a gambler who used to get into all sorts of scrapes each week. Years later, the award-winning actor captured lightning in a bottle once more with the 1974 series The Rockford Files. Garner played Jim Rockford a private investigator with a shady past. The actor has died at his L.A. home at the age of 86.
The Oklahoma actor first started working on television in 1956 and worked on both television and films throughout his long career. He was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers in 1990. Garner was also inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1986. James Garner, star of The Rockford Files and Maverick has been reported dead at age 86, the cause of death is not known at this time.
