Britney Spears has split from her boyfriend of a year and a half, David Lucado. The split comes amidst the news that there is a video circulating the internet which details Lucado’s infidelities.
The video, which is reportedly making its way around Hollywood, shows the man kissing another woman and dancing with her. The location that the video was shot in has yet to be revealed, but the two appear to be in a living room. The recording is said to have been filmed earlier this month. Sources close to the situation say that Spears was livid upon her discovery of the video’s existence, choosing to terminate the couple’s relationship immediately. Shortly following the breakup, the singer took to Twitter to post an update detailing her apparent relief at being single again. She did not further elaborate on the reasons why she had chosen to exit her relationship.
A representative for Lucado has provided the statement that he still loves the 32-year-old very much, and is hoping for a reconciliation. No insight on the video itself or whether the allegations of cheating are legitimate was provided. Lucado has also refrained from addressing the circumstances surrounding the recording. The split comes as a shock to many of Spears’ fans, as it was a mere month ago that she took to Instagram in order to dispel previous rumors of a breakup, by way of a cozy picture of the two by the pool of her home.
The two got together in March of 2013, shortly following Spears’ split from her fiancé Jason Trawick. Much of the public believed that her new relationship was simply a rebound, as she and Trawick had been together for over five years. He was even assigned her co-conservator, put in charge of managing her affairs along with her father Jamie. The conservatorship, which was originally put in place in 2008, stems from the singer having suffered a psychological breakdown and being admitted to the hospital for psychological evaluation after being put under a 5150 psychiatric hold. This event came the year after Spears chose to completely shave her head, followed by a bizarre incident in which she attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella. The conservatorship was assigned in order to not only protect Spears, but also ensure that she was making reasonable decisions regarding her health, life choices, and parenting. After a judge consented to Trawick no longer being co-conservator following their split, full responsibility was given back to the father. Jamie Spears gave a statement shortly following the split between his daughter and Trawick, giving his view that Spears would continue to be under the conservatorship for quite some time, especially given the recent loss of her fiancé.
The Louisiana raised star is no stranger to high-profile relationships and breakups. She was married to her former backup dancer, Kevin Federline, from 2004-2007. Their marriage did not end amicably, as their split occurred around the aforementioned troubled time in Spears’ life. Custody of the former couple’s two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, was given to Federline after Child Protective Services declared their mother an unfit parent. Upon seeking assistance for mental health and other issues, as well as the conservatorship being put in place, the singer was given full access to her sons.
It remains to be seen whether or not the split between Britney Spears and David Lucado will remain permanent. However, the Toxic chart-topper remains adamant that the couple are through for the time being.
