Ed Sheeran and Niall Horan have publicly dismissed rumors of a growing feud between the two, by way of a friendly picture the two took together this past Saturday. The picture was taken while the two were both in attendance at a party held at XS nightclub in Las Vegas, organized to celebrate Friday’s iHeartRadio musical festival.
In the picture, the redheaded Brit slings an arm around the One Direction star’s shoulder while planting a kiss on his cheek, all while the latter singer mugs for the camera with a drink placed in one hand and the other hand placed on Sheeran’s shoulder. The two were joined by multiple other high-profile musicians, including Mackelmore and David Guetta. Jermaine Dupri and rap superstar Lil’ Jon were also in attendance at the event, as well as former JLS member Marvin Humes. The picture appeared to be an unspoken truce between the two, who were rumored to have been feuding since early 2014.
The alleged conflict in question was said to be over fellow British singer Ellie Goulding, with whom both Sheeran and Horan were said to be romantically involved in at the same time. Indeed, Sheeran’s track Don’t was allegedly penned regarding his relationship with Goulding, which is said to have ended dramatically following his realization that her and Horan had been seeing each other behind his back. When asked about the song, the 23-year-old confirmed that all of it was true, and even went on to say that there was more nastiness to the story that he did not want to put into song. He stated the song was about a girl he had dated who engaged in physical relations with a good friend of his, all while the three were staying in the same hotel. The Lego House hit-maker stated that he was in the lobby of the hotel while the alleged relations took place, and that he ended his relationship with the girl shortly after realizing this fact. He told the interviewer that he was more angry than upset following the incident, as he felt he had been blatantly disrespected by the pair of them. Although the couple involved has never officially been confirmed, it has been heavily suggested that Horan and Goulding were the individuals Sheeran was singing about.
The Hebden Bridge native has been creatively involved with the boys of One Direction for some years now. In 2012, he penned the band’s hit single Little Things, which is widely considered one of the boys’ first forays into more subdued and adult-oriented musical tracks, versus their signature bouncy teen pop tracks. He also wrote the track Moments, which appeared on the band’s 2011 album Up All Night. He is said to have recently penned yet another song for the band, to appear on their upcoming fourth album Four. The Sing chart-topper reportedly turned down the initial proposal to write another track for the band, but changed his mind once inspiration suddenly hit while in the bathroom of a Danish hotel room.
It remains to be seen whether or not all is truly well between Ed Sheeran and Niall Horan. However, the two seem to have reached an amicable point in their relationship for the time being.
