Singer Keyshia Cole has been arrested for an assault that took place at rapper Birdman’s condo early Friday morning. She has since been released on $46,000 bail.
Cole was reportedly on her way to see Birdman, who she is rumored to be dating, when she found an unknown woman in his company. Cole reportedly flew into a rage at the woman’s presence and proceeded to launch an all-out attack on her. The woman was left with multiple scratches on her face by the time authorities showed up to the scene and placed the 32-year-old under arrest. She was subsequently booked for misdemeanor battery at the Los Angeles Police Department’s station in Van Nuys, California. She was also booked on a warrant for an outstanding reckless driving charge.
Upon her release, the California native took to Instagram to release a storm of updates laden with cryptic content, of which seemed to be related to the altercation with the woman she found at Birdman’s condo. These messages included many weepy emoticons, questions as to why men say they will stop lying and then continue to do so, and a statement regarding the difference she and an undisclosed romantic interest feel about what it means to be real. One of the last messages merely consisted of the word fake, not openly directed at anyone in particular.
This is not Cole’s first foray into controversy with another individual, although it is the first incident of violence. She has previously been involved in two highly publicized industry feuds, one with Lil’Mo and the other with Gucci Mane. The Trust and Believe singer took great offense to Lil’Mo questioning her credibility in the Hip Hop/R&B industry, giving his opinion that her only merit was that she was an up and coming female with the likes of Ashanti, whose spotlight would fade away within a short period of time. Gucci Mane made the singer’s blacklist after he rapped his belief that she had been cheating on Young Jeezy with rap legend P. Diddy, with whom she collaborated on the hit song Last Night.
Cole’s anger at Lil’Mo’s scrutiny of her talent was rumored to be related to how long she has actually been in the industry, which the rapper did not seem to know or care. The American Music Award nominee got her start at the mere age of 12, when she met 80’s rap star M.C. Hammer and was subsequently introduced to late rapper Tupac Shakur. At 18 she made the move from Oakland, California to Los Angeles, upon which time she was signed to A&M records. Her debut album was released in 2005, entitled The Way It Is. The album quickly certified gold, followed up by platinum a short while later. Her two consecutive albums were also certified platinum, with her second album being the most successful of the three. Her fourth and fifth albums were nowhere near as successful as the first three, failing to certify platinum or gold.
It remains to be seen what will become of Keyshia Cole’s recent arrest for assault. Neither she nor her representatives have yet to provide any official statement on the matter.
