Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and he did not go down without a fight. The incident took place in New York City at approximately 1AM this morning, and the TLC personality threw something of a verbal fit while he was being cuffed.
The 37-year-old was reportedly spotting by authorities swerving his 2014 Corvette alarmingly while driving on Manhattan’s busy 10th Avenue, upon which time they signaled for him to pull over in order for them to approach his vehicle. Upon investigating the matter further, police discovered Valastro to be blatantly under the influence of something, which they determined to be alcohol upon close inspection of his person (reports state that the man’s breath was more than a tell tale sign of intoxication.) The man reportedly failed multiple sobriety tests, which culminated in him blowing a .09 in terms of his blood alcohol level. Given that the legal limit is .08, Valastro was subsequently handcuffed and booked at the appropriate police station upon charges of DUI.
It was at this point that the reality television star became extremely discontent with the circumstances he had found himself in, and began expressing his view that the officers in question had absolutely no right to be apprehending him at all. He reportedly gave the reason for this as being his reality TV stardom, essentially questioning their dare to arrest the star of Cake Boss. Valastro also is said to have put the cops on blast for detaining him rather than simply sending him home in cab, which he feels would have been the more reasonable decision. He also informed them that he was not a bad person, and that he felt they were being unecessarily mean-spirited in their efforts to incarcerate him.
The man appeared in court earlier today, upon which time the situation was detailed before a judge. The aforementioned conflict was detailed in the complaint report submitted by police, which was read out loud at large. Valastro pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence, and was subsequently released without bail. It remains to be seen if or what penalty he will serve regarding the incident, such as alcohol education classes or the like (Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson was ordered to spend one year in such classes following his July 2013 arrest for driving while impaired.)
Cake Boss wrapped up its sixth season earlier this year, and shows no sign of ceasing in its popularity. Indeed, the bakery themed program is one of TLC network’s most successful programs, given that it has brought in a steady stream of good ratings and reviews since its debut in April of 2009. The program’s warm reception also led to a boost in business for Valastro’s Italian-American venue Carlo’s Bakery, which is located in New Jersey’s Hoboken city. The exposure of the bakery is also said to have attracted more tourists for Hoboken itself, boosting revenue for the town and adding to N.J.’s economy overall.
It remains to be seen whether or not Cake Boss will face any kind of hiatus or even termination following lead star Buddy Valastro’s recent arrest for DUI. More information on the criminal proceedings of the case have yet to be revealed.
