Tekken

The international recognized and one of the most critically acclaimed franchises Tekken adds a new character to its latest installment. Announced this past week, the fighting game conglomerate draws inspiration from the Arabian Nights by adding a Middle Eastern-inspired character named Shaheen. The Saudian Arabian fighter will be the first of his ethnicity to become immortalized in the game’s history and fighting style reflects a more cultural diverse and sensitive story.

TekkenOriginally leaked in the early summer by Tekken‘s creator Katsuhiro Harada, Shaheen received nothing but positive feedback from the Middle Eastern community via social media. Although the character’s appearance may border on the gimmicky and the cliched, Saudi Arabian’s inclusion in the game is what most critics were excited to see. Not easily compared to the Egyptian fighter Zafira, Shaheen will have a completely different background story and fighting style.

TekkenStill not much is known about the details of Tekken 7, but Katsuhiro Harada has already stated that the latest installment will be the series darkest story line. The game will also focus more of on the relationship between Jin Kazama, Heihachi, and Kazuya, while also delving into the story behind the Mishima clan. Harada claims that the fans will actually get an answer as to when the “Devil” gene first came into existence within Kazuya and Jin, as well as, give more insight into the death of Kazuya’s mother Kazumi Mishima. Considering that the concept art for her character has been leaked, speculation that she may be a playable character have already surfaced throughout the blogs and gaming sites.

With all the rumors going around, the only thing that has been confirmed by Bandai Namco representatives is the list of new playable characters and a little insight into the story. So far, all the public knows is that the Saudian Arabian character Shaheen joins the list of four new playable characters. The other characters to be engraved in the fighting games history are the Brazilian fighter Katarina Alves, who utilizes a unique fighting style of French kickboxing called Savate. A mysterious Italian fighter named Claudio Serafino, who fights with a arm comprised of light that can be used offensively during combat. Another controversial character named Lucky Chloe, who is a teenage blond girl dressed in a cat-themed suit. Also known as Otaku, the character is Ariana Grande-esque with her obsession for cat ears and fights with a blend of kicks, twirls, acrobatics, and hip-hop dancing. Though the character is a somewhat gag, gamers have already expressed outrage that she is even included in the roster because of her appearance and stereotypical implications.

TekkenThough the buzz for Tekken 7 is still building, the game should prove to be one of the series strongest. With returning Tekken favorites and fueled under the new Epic Unreal Engine 4, the game’s graphics and gameplay should be more than exceptional for the franchise. No word on whether this will be the last time we get to see fan-favorite Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin again in later installments, but lovers of the game will just have to wait till it hits arcades in Japan later in the year to see how the story plays out.
