Despite European leaders threatening to pull out, Ukraine will host the European-2012 football Championships as scheduled. The tournament will kick off on June 8th and is being co-hosted by Poland.
Several leaders threatened to pull out from the tournament over the jail sentenced imposed on former opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, who claims that she is being mistreated by the Ukranian authorities without adequate medical facilities.
Her daughter Eugenia Tymoshenko is spearheading a campaign to seek the international intervention over her mother’s situation. Ukraine has not publically admitted or denied the charges. The opposition leader was sentenced to seven years for abuse of power, which is denied senior Tymoshenko.
On the opening day, Poland will meet Greece and Russia to battle it out against Czech Republic.
