August 7? October 4th? We’ve only heard speculation about when the new iPhone 5 will be released. Consumers are eagerly awaiting its arrival but will the new gadget be all it’s cracked up to be? According to Apple, the new device will be thinner, lighter and easier to use than its latest family member, the iPhone 4S. It will also have an 8 megapixel camera and most likely, a taller screen. Still, I question the eagerness of the American market to obtain this device on the exact same day it is launched. I can’t help but wonder if this is actually about possessing the latest technology to make our lives easier or if it has become a desperate search for a sense of “higher status.” Does having this phone on the first day of its launch somehow make me a better person than somebody else? Who knows …
While we are still possibly months away from a release, we do have a pretty good idea about how the iPhone 5’s launch and release will play out this fall. With the iPhone 5, we expect to see a release date across the board for its major carriers which should include AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. We also should see the same pricing at all three carriers.
Last but not least, we expect the iPhone 5 release date to be chaotic. Earlier this year, when the new iPad launched, it took consumers many hours to lock down an order for the device. Those interested in the new iPhone 5 should expect the release date to be a stressful one, filled with sites crashing, extremely slow order processing and loss of hair. However, if the rumors are correct, the new iPhone 5 will not only be worth the wait, but it will also be worth the chaos you may have to endure to acquire one.
